Any insurance employees here?

So I think insurance companies basically suck ass. My 04 Armada got vandalized by someone scratching it from front to rear on the driver's side and puncturing a tire. I called it into my insurance company. They told me to go to a certain shop for a estimate. They said that it was their contract shop.

So I took it to their shop to get an estimate. The estimate came in a $2700 without the tire. I also went to a second shop that gave me an estimate of $2600.

When my insurance company called me back, I told them that I would take it to their shop but that I was not sure when I was going to do it (Actually I was going to shop it to a less expensive place so I could eat my $250 deductible). I told them just to send me a check. They said that they would have to have on of their adjusters come out to look at it.

Their adjuster gave me an estimate of $2200 with the tire. So now I am pissed. I told them the shop THEY sent me to was $500 dollars more. They said, well when you go to get the work done, if it is more we can work it out with them. I asked why they bothered to send me more then $100 dollars with reasoning like that. If I don't want to, legally I can pocket the money and not fix the vehicle. So I am turning this over to my attorney.

Well something similiar just happened with my Civic. My wife was rear-ended by an SUV. All it did was some scratches on the bumper. The guys insurance company told me to take it to their shop. I did and was given an estimate of $650. I told Progressive to send me a check. They said they would have to send out an adjuster. The adjuster came out and gave me an estimate of $400. She told me that if the actual cost to fix it was more, they would pay the difference.

I think the insurance companies are just screwing me.

I subcontract auto appraisals for about 12 different insurance companies. I'd have to see the estimates to see the differance in the two. Theres stuff on the Body Shop estimate that can get covered, also stuff they won't. I'll help you if you want it.

BTW, where are you?

No, they're not screwing you. Insurance companies get a different rate than the average Joe...Yes, you can get a check for the damage, but not for just any estimate. You can take it to any shop you choose, but that shop will give the insurance a better rate than you...In essense you can get your car fixed for thier rate...so why would they send you a check for more?

PM me and I can help further...as stated above I work in Auto claims
