I'm looking to take my girl to the beach this summer. I'd like to go someplace that won't be as tourist-y as Panama City Beach or Cancun, although I still want to have some fun. East Coast, West Coast, Gulf of Mexico, it doesn't matter. Hell, if the price is right, I'd consider hoppin' the ocean and hitting up Europe or someplace.
Anyone have any ideas they'd like to share? |

Cedar Key, FL Stayed at a Bed and Breakfast. Very nice and relaxed but not a lot nearby. Excellent speckled trout and redfish fishing. If you like to eat fish definately try speckled trout! And if you can try try two fish dishes also try Scamp (not scampi). It's the champagne of grouper.
There are also other places along the Florida West Coast that may be worth a look. Naples and Ft Meyers areas maybe. Getting pretty touristy in those areas as well though. St Augustine, FL. Lots of Bed Breakfast places here as well. Water is a often a little cooler than the rest of Florida, especially in June when steady offshore wind flow is present. Lots of history here (oldest city in US). Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC. Both of these obviously have a lot of the Old South charm and architecture. Strict Building codes within the historic districts have maintained that. Las Brisas Resort in Acapulco. Excellent views. Nice facilities and good staff. A little away from the main drag. Slight elevation = nice breezes. Breakfast on the veranda in the mornings with the bay in the background. Obviously lots to do nearby. Can get deals for off-season. You might want to forget the West Coast in summer, except maybe parts of extreme Southern California. The cold marine layer rolls in just about everyday with fog and low clouds. Best to hit these beaches in the Fall. How about Belize? |

^^ I've been there - it's beautiful. Snorkeling etc down in that area is just unbelievable. I don't know what kind of budget you're looking at, or how long you want to be gone, but a cruise is an option? Obviously there are people on the boat, but you dock places where you can get off and do whatever you want. The prices include all of your meals etc. And if you have like tripple A, or book early enough, you can usually get huge discounts on cruise trips. Usually a week on a cruise will stop you off at like 3 places or something. Like grand cayman, cozumel, jamaica, for example. And you can always stay on the boat or do whatever. It's an option I guess.

Looks like we're heading to the Florida Keys. Her dad (who passed away when she was young) loved the Keys. It's got a sentimental appeal to her, and since she's never been there we both thought it would be the right place to go.
I realize it's touristy down there, but we'll deal. Does anyone have any suggestions of which island to stay on, good places to eat, hangout, activities, etc? Thanks for any help! |

Hey Cam, South Beach was a great place for me to take my girlfriend. We went a week after spring break. Not a lot of tourist, so that was good. While in Miami, we stayed at the 4star Royal Palm on Collins Ave. and shopped all on Lincoln Rd.
It was great.

I talked to my brother last night and he mentioned Naples. He said there's not much of a night life (which I can deal with), but that just means there aren't as many tourists floating around. Since this is a getaway and not a party vacation, I think I might look into that. We just want to get out of town and chill. No worries, no thoughts, just relaxing.

I went to Jamaica recently and had a great time with my girlfriend. We went all inclusive for a week and it was perfect. From my experiences, and from what people have told me, you basically get what you pay for with all inclusives. Cheaper = crappy food and small drink selection.

My vote would be for Destin, Fla. I go there every year .. sometimes twice a year :) I usually go either right before the summer or right after ... half the tourists & kids and the rates are alot less.. I'll be there the 1st week in Oct. this year
