Final tomorrow in worst class....and am TOTALLY not prepared

I've been sitting here for 5 hours trying to figure out what the heck we've been going over all semester (to keep it simple, I have the worst teacher eVar!) in System Dynamics. I've been on wikipedia lookking up PID Controllers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PID_controller) and Bode plots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bode_plot). I haven't even started working the problems because theres about 300 pages of this mess that I can't make out. This is ridiculous. My grade right now is near a 40....and that's a friggin' C in this class. Crazy old man. Test is tomorrow @ 11:30. Me and about the rest of the class are all in the same boat. Noone knows how to work these d@mn problems!

/mother f***** sh1t f** danm ***** RANT!!!

No, you don't want to go to my school for that reason. It's not good to know if you're going to pass or not. The point is that his students are doing so bad that he's having to help us pass. He literally is the worst teacher I've had so far, and I've only got one year left. His test NEVER have anything relevant to anything he's gone over. Literally, it's like a test on how well you can teach yourself in one hour. I'm sure the final will be the same.

I'm taking a break from studying. I've been at it for hours now and I'm burnt out.

Probably because this isn't high school buddy.
If som eof the material hasnt been covered doesn't mean it won't be on quizes, midterms, finals.

Wow, you honestly have no idea. If a test is given and none of the material has been covered, how do you honestly expect someone to learn it in an hour and a half? This isn't simple algebra, this is system dynamics. You are given a problem and expected to solve it by hand, then write a program to produce graphs and then explain the results. I'm fully aware this isn't high school. If you think you could do all this in the time alotted for a test then by all means, enjoy your $10 million/year job. When you have people with 3.5+ GPA's in mechanical/aerospace engineering with no clue as to what's going on, something is definately wrong with the teaching.

that's why you open the book everyday after class and read up on what you didn't understand. Then before you go to bed, you read the topic which will be discussed the next morning in class so in case you are not really following the professor explanations, you could ask him about it. As i said before, this isn't high school and you have one whole semester to prepare for a final.
Tough and annoying but when you get paid 400K a year it won't look that bad

Sounds like you're an IT major (Technology)

University of Minnesota has an amazing IT program, and a lot of my friends are in it, but let me tell you something, I hear its hard as hell.

My friend said one of his classes, the test averages were around 30/200.

To me, that's not learning. That's forcing too much information, if even the smartest in the class is averaging 30 or so...

That's not likely to happen. Unless you don't work.

Good luck to you, man. I'm in the same boat (kinda); finals all week.

Monday: Quantitative Business Analysis 9:45a
Tuesday: Business Ethics 7:15a, Data Communications and Signals 9:45a
Wednesday: STUDY DAY!
Thursday: Database Management 9:45a
Friday: Operations Management 7:15a

I'm the IT major. Well, MIS (Management Information Systems) to be exact.

Good luck to everyone else who has finals!

How the hell do you guys find the time for all this? I can't even take twelve credits and do moderately well in college. I'm about two seconds from quitting. And how the hell do you know what you wanna do!?

12 credits is nothing! I averaged around 18 credits per semester w/ a major in ocean engineering with a specialization in non-linear wave theory. I'll admit that some professors just shouldn't be teaching. Sometimes they are too smart and just can't dumb stuff down to someone who has never had experience. Often times they just flat out suck. The only thing you can do is to go to the department head of your major with as many people as you can think of and have a little sit down. Let him/her know that if a 40 is a C then there must be something wrong with the professor's teaching. You are also paying HUGE amounts of money to LEARN. A 40 isn't learning so you aren't getting your monies worth. It might not help you out, but the poor sap after you might have a fighting chance. The thing that bothered me the most is when the professor can't speak fluent English. If you are pretty competitive at sports you just have to rethink your academic strategy. The professor is challenging you to a game and you have to prove yourself. It always helped me even when I didn't like the class.

you still have weekends, nights of studying. Even if you don't do projects you can still get knowledge from reading. The excuse from lazy people will always be "I dont have time", "Work's too much" "I have a job and bills to pay, etc. All people need is a schedule to follow and establish your lifestyle upon it. Once you get used to it, you can manage it yourself.
Look at myself. I study during the day, work at night and on sat. I'm taking 18 credits this semester and I'm doing quite well(3.8).

I agree that in order to be successful, a schedule is def needed. I also think having a life is slightly necessary too. I would rather do well and have a life than study in all of my free time and have no life. Just my opinion, but those who are like you will def end up with awesome jobs and will probably be laughing at us in the long run.
