Gotta love Honda

So after being unhappy with the dealer yesterday, and dealing with them today. My Mother calls me telling me that her window burst. My mother was walking out of a funeral, and while walking past the back of the vehicle(2005 Honda CRV) with her friends they heard a pop and the window burst. Nothing was touched no one was even near the back of the vehicle. So Honda wasn't even willing to take and responsibility for it under warranty. Because they see no reason it could be their fault. So now she is having to go through her insurance for the $522 window. And hopefully after the dealership hears back from whoever they called. They will agree to pay for some of it.

Thats crap, that IS a defect (gas shocks probably built up too much pressure from the heat, design flaw)

I wouldn't claim that, you should fight dealer for that

plus they're not going to reimburse you for the insurance claim

From the pictures, you can clearly see that's the problem.

That really sucks. Hopefully your mom gets a call from HoA for a follow up survey. Every time I've taken my car to the dealership for something HoA has called me to conduct a survey. One time I was upset because they charged me for something I thought should have been covered under warranty and that's what I told the guy during the survey. The next week the dealership called me and credited me for the charge.

Maybe look around online to see if anyone else has experienced the same problem? This would add credibility to it being a defect.

Without a doubt! Look at the top picture. The gas shock is above the roof. Look at the hinge next to it. The hinge is in the down position and still has glass connected to it. Simple physics shows that it was a moment (rotational "force", i.e. torque) "buildup". The glass that is still connected between the hinge and the gas shock proves this. If I had my PE license I'd go down there with you to prove it to them.

Thanx geezer great idea.... and come down there with me then lol The guy was saying the only reasons that the shock things are up was because the glass broke there was nothing to hold it down.

I'm not sure that I agree, it's more likely a glass defect. Once the glass breaks, the shocks no longer have any load compressing them, so they extend. The rotational torque may have caused a small break to turn into the shattered window!

My wife has an '05 CRV and had a '99 which had a similar design. The shocks are barely strong enough to open the window, in fact when you hit the release, it just pops the latch and has to be lifted about 1/4 the way open before it lifts on it's own. The hinges would be down because they have no springs and rely on the opening of the window to move. The glass still being connected just proves that it's safety glass.

This is one of those things that probably is a defect of some kind, but proving it is going to suck! Sometimes you have to do the math and decide how much your time is worth fighting it. I haven't been as impressed with the quality of my wife's '05 as I was with the '99, lot's of rattles, leaks, etc.

Alyson, You're service manager or advisor, who ever you spoke with is an ass. Is this the same guy that said "no wonder you aren't married?" screw it, if I were you, I'd go make a big show of my anger. Get a guy to go with you. I hate to say it, but after working in a dealership, it seems that women get laughed at when they're on their own, but once you throw a guy into the situation stuff gets done. Do it. Get a big guy in a suit. You're in FL. Go find a North Jersey Italian to get stuff done.
