Here ya go, read this: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,12...1/article.html Use component video cables for your DVD to TV. That's the only way to get progressive scan. |

Not true. In fact, many DVD players will not upconvert unless you use DVI or HDMI. |

I'm a lil confused but I'll try to help you out.
"Monster Cable" is a BRAND name of a/v gear. They make good stuff but unless you have very long cable runs or are going the THX ULTRA II route then you don't really need it. Now what I think you're asking is what type of connector to use. Since you said that you have a DVI connection then use that instead of the RCA plugs. HDMI>DVI>COMPONENT>S-VIDEO>COMPOSITE Hope that helped some. |

I worked at Circuit City for almost 3 years and I can say that for the most part you get what you pay for, so stay away from the specials on high performance TV's for cheap, their picture quality and sound quality is usually very poor to say the least. The contrast ratios (brightness which in turn relates to resolution) are always very low, and usually come with a very minimal manufacturer warranty, if they have one at all. And lastly they usually only have a couple of inputs to connect to.And to answer the original question, my opinion is that Monster probably makes the best cables in the business, but the average consumer can't tell the difference so don't waste your money by buying them at a retail store. Buy them on eBay for about an 80% discount or just get the generic cables, the most important thing is what type of connection you use, because there are drastic differences in picture quality from the regular RCA's to the S-video to the Component cables to the HDMI/DVI. I guess I have low standards for something that sits on a stand and just shows me moving pictures. I've never really thought of a TV as part of a home theater system- not my personal interest. But I do believe you when you say that you get what you pay for.
Here's a quote of what kind of TV it was. Good or no good? • HD monitor capable of displaying HD content with external tuner (not included) • High Definition-Ready with 720p or 1080i Signals • 1366 x 768 Resolution • Inputs: HDMI/HDCP • Outputs: Audio Out • Contrast Ratio: 1600:1 • 8ms Response Time • Additional Functions: Computer Monitor By the way, it has since gone back up to nearly retail price at $750. |

Don't get monster cable. In my experience, it's the worst quality ever.
I have had 4 different cables short out within 6 months, rca, svideo, guitar amp jumpers, minijack. I have a friend who used to work there too, he said in their actually testing labs they laugh, because the difference between monster and generic is not noticeable. |

To the OP, if you want a quality cable, look into some of these brands. www.cobaltcable.com www.bettercables.com www.signalcable.com www.bluejeanscable.com www.mapleshade.com (more 2ch audio, not home theater) If you want to look at a great retail cable company, www.audioquest.com Those are some great midfi cables for the buck. They're hard to beat. They all sell off their site and have great return policies so you're covered to try them out. I use all Cobalt and Signal personally. Love it! If anyone wants to try and say I don't know what I'm talking about, I have over 8 years experience in the industry. I have personally spent literally over $1k on my wires in my system but only wanted to go midfi. I have bought and returned many cables just to do a blind Pepsi challenge between them on my system to know I'm getting the cable I want. If you haven't done this yourself, you need to and have your eyes opened. I never take anyone's word for it... except my ear's. You should to. |
