Radar detector
Hey everybody Im lookin for a good radar detector. But im lookin for a "good" one. I want one that isn't complicated and isn't expensive. My friend bought one that was $140, but then again I found a radar detector that was $80 and it was rated 4 star. i dunno. Is there one out there that someone would recommend?
Plus: I heard that some radar detector can be set off by numerous things. Im lookin for one that isn't effected by anything else but radars. |

Well you're going to have a problem finding that perfect radar without it going off on anything other than radar signals bud.
Most shopping centers might make your detector go off...banks normally do also. But I have the Escort Passport 8500 X50. It would cost you anywhere between 299-340 depending on the blue or red display. One thing I want you to understand is that you do get what you pay for also in a radar detector. You really shouldn't have one at all really because most of the time I catch myself not really paying attention to what it has to say or does anyways. And another thing is...if your detector is going off... it might be alittle too late. GL goodluck on what you choose bud but if I had to say pick one...go with the Escort Passport 8500 x50. Great item! |

"The new PHAZER II ™ is the only high performance top quality all bands radar and laser scrambler. The scrambler makes your car invisible to both radar and laser and works so well it is backed by a one-year manufacture ticket rebate guarantee. You get a ticket, the manufacturer will pay it."
Wow... Is that actually believable?? |

Check your local laws before getting that. Not sure if that counts as a jammer, but if it does you can get a ticket for that on top of whatever else the cop wants to get you for. I have a Valentine1 and I love the hell out of it. It has saved my ass numerous times from cops up ahead as well as behind. Search the forums though....this topic has been covered a lot.

mine doesn't go off that much...you have to check the sensativity level. While driving on the city streets, if you have it set to the highest setting (ie. DETECT everything), then, yeah, it will go off all the time while driving thru the city. I have it set at a medium setting in the city so it doens't give me so many false alarms. If there is a really strong signal it gives a muted alert.

Laser jammers work (depending on the model, of course), are not illegal, and indeed are the only real defense against laser radar. Laser detectors serve only to let you know you're getting a ticket. It's possible some of the "light scattering" products meant for license plates may help, but don't bet money on it. It's the radar jamming/scrambling devices that are outlawed. The government gets very touchy about anything transmitting radio frequencies. |

I have a badass Cobra radar detector, I'll have to get the number off it after work. It works GREAT. :) It has automute so its not just killing your ears. I ordered a hard-wire kit from ebay and wired it in last week. Its immediately to the top left of my rear-view mirror (it actually rests on it slightly) This location works perfectly :)

So one day I decide to find the best position on the windshield for it. I park in front of one of those "your speed is XX" machines on the side of the HWY 37 in Texas. Everytime a car drove buy their speed was still shown, and I'm not talking just a few feet away, I mean at least 1/2 mile away as soon as they were in range. So I thought maybe I was too close/far from the radar thing so I moved several time...still didn't work. Anways, for a few months I just got really lucky because I started driving a lot faster over the limit than I normally would have. |
