There's gotta be a way. But being at work, it's hard to sit down and work on the solution.

Is this really hard?

Here's what I got, in steps:

1) mom, girl 1 to other side, drops off girl 1, mom drives back
2) mom, girl 2 to other side, drops off girl 2, mom drives back
3) mom, dad to other side, drops off mom, dad drives back
4) dad, boy 1 to other side, drops off boy 1, dad drives back
5) dad, boy 2 to other side, drops off boy 2, dad drives back
6) dad, grandpa to other side, drops off dad, grandpa drives back
7) grandpa and dog to the other side

It's not riht, but that's the only way I can think of a solution aside from drownin the four kids because they keep complaining about the damn fishing trip.

I believe I have the answer. Took me about half an hour or so.

If you want to figure it out youself, I've left it so you can't see the answer.

Highlight below if you just don't care.

Grandpa and dog - over
Grandpa - back
Grandpa and boy - over
Grandpa and dog - back
Father and boy - over
Father - back
Mother and father - over
Mother - back
Grandpa and dog - over
Father - back
Mother and father - over
Mother - back
Mother and daughter - over
Grandpa and dog - back
Grandpa and daughter - over
Grandpa - back
Grandpa and dog - over

Haha. So close, but in step 4, you can't leave any boys with the mom unless the dad is with them. So, that won't work.

key to solving a riddle like this is at one point or more, you have to make a move that will take you a step back, not many people will want to do that but its the only way

build more rafts...problem solved....swim problem solved....

other solution: grampa threatens to kill everyone with the dog if they don't behave, once orderly, brings one along at a time.
