Hate Crime...

One of my boyfriends lives in North Carolina, I won't say the name of the town to protect him, but something absolutely awful happened to him over the last few days.

As you know, some parts of the South are not as, um..."open" to diversity as the rest of the country. He never officially came out, and he's not feminine, at all, but he's small figured. He's shorter and skinny. Classic boy-next-door type. Anyways, he's a junior in high school, and a rumor got started that he was *** (he's not that kind of guy...he doesn't sleep around. At all).

But he's faced constant harassment for the last two years. His teachers and "friends" won't associate with him (except for one or two close ones), and the school administration won't protect him, and looks over the other shoulder when someone harasses him, badly.

Yesterday night, someone rolled (TP'ed/Saran Wrapped) his uncle and aunt (whom he lives with) newer Mustang, egged his house, spraypainted "***" six times over his house, and put over a pound of sugar into his 2005 Toyota truck.

Cops were contacted, but they're not doing hardly anything. They didnt even seem to care that it was ***-hate related at all; just an act of youthful "rebellion" and "property damage."

I'm literally sick to my stomach right now. What the hell is wrong with this country? The majority of states do not protect gays and lesbians from hate crimes (well, punishable as an offense), and hate crimes against sexual minorities are well up on the list of most committed crimes.

I don't care what you feel about gays, or *** marriage, but how on EARTH can you justify such behavior...this poor kid is miserable, and he had problems to begin with.

I came out very young, and while I did have hard times...nothing compares to this...

It kills me, and I don't know what to tell him...Just hurts to see how hateful and angry and violent people are.

I just read a report that the Royal Army overseas has rather high percentages of people in the forces who say that they dont want to serve with gays/lesbians, don't want to serve with minorities, don't want to serve with colored people, and claim that integrated women is "more hassle than its worth".

Man, oh man...

Okay, sorry if I made it sound like he isn't. He IS, in fact, ***, but he doesn't talk about it to anyone. It's people just spreading stuff around. He keeps to himself, except for his best friend, and people just spread like wildfire.

I honestly dont see what the problem is, especially for the people who associated with him before and now dont, it doesnt change anything. Maybe its how I was raised that it doesnt make sense or what but when I hear about people doing this stuff it really pisses me off.

Well that's just it...he was friends with a lot of people before. People from every "clique" liked him...

But when they got wind about it...he's pretty much down to his one friend, and he's taking theatre classes (even though he HATES acting), just to try to avoid the people who constantly harass him and make school not worht going to. The kids in theatre still make fun of him, but he doesn't hear about it...he said, "I just dont want to hear it...I know its being said, but they don't harass me...I just dont want to be in classes with anyone anymore..."

sorry to hear about your friend. i was constantly harassed in 9th grade about being *** until i kicked the closet door down and came out. i lived in va beach, va so its not as country but i told my principal if they cant protect me im going to protect myself and i've been in in my fair share of rumbles. he should take some martial arts and then nobody would mess with him. or be best friends with the senior african american girls cuz those girls were my protection as well!!!!

That's sad, really sad. However somebody may have differing opinions regarding sexuality, that's unacceptable. He should report it to the media station, maybe get some press. It's disgusting how hatred can be wrongfully justified under some banner of morality.

they are lot nicer of people than rest of the society.

cops won't do anything probably cuz they dont like gya people? they flip out if something happens to black people i mean...isn't it still HATE CRIME???

hate crimes should be punished to fullest extent of the law

I hate to hear that this stuff is still going on, the HS years are supposed to be some of the best years of a person's life. He should have a much easier time (acceptance-wise) when he gets out of HS and goes to college. Tell him to hang in there!!

Yeah...he's kind of had a hard life...his mother and father weren't there for him very much, and his grandmother is evil. His aunt and uncle are the only ones that care for him.

He's a good clean kid. Never dabbled in anything bad. Truth be told he should be a lot worse off than he currently is, but nonetheless.

It's just hard telling him to hang in there, because he's been hanging in for so long waiting for something positive to happen, you know?

I wish the rest of the world (America too) felt the same way you guys do, even if you/they don't agree with it...

Thats probably because some people feel 'well, ya can't help being born a minority but you chose to be ***.' Some people just think that gays and lesbians woke up one day and said 'hmmm... this is different. I think I'll try it.' Someone on here said something in another thread along the lines of you don't wake up one day and decide to voluntarily live a life of prejudice and perseccution just for sex, or something along those lines. I believe whole heartedly that somone's orientation is something the are either born with or is set so early in life that it wasn't a choice. Yes, there are some women that "dabble in lesbianism" and that seems more of having been socially triggered rather than biologically. But overall, you are what you are. It's ashame that others don't realise that.

He only has a few more years. The problem with highschool is that those are the years that set a foundation for shaping us. The crap that happens then can and will affect us the rest of our lives. I hated highschool. God, I wish I was there to support him. When he graduates, he can leave that rat trap of a town and go somewhere where he feels accepted, welcome and can find people who love him for him.

Our country has a very strict Boy Code. Boys are expected to live up to certain societal expectations and values, and if they don't, they are "*** or girly or not men". This is a huge problem. Women, however, are able to show affection to most degrees wherever they want without fear of being labeled a lesbian.

It's not the same with *** men. If any of you get a chance to read an article by William Pollock called "The Boy Code", I think you'd like it.

Unjustifiable. I was also confused by the first sentence. I'm like, is he saying "boy friends" like one of his guy friends, or does he have more than one boyfriend? I was about to say, you sly devil, you .

Sorry to hear about him though. I've seen the end result of a hate crime personally, in the worst way, but it wasn't sexually-related. Even though the guy was ***, I think it was more because he was black. Was sad
