Over 30 club

I'm a '06 GG Si owner, and am one of the minority of over-the-hill Si enthusiasts. (a geezer Si driver with youthful ambitions!) I understand, though I didn't know this when I purchased my Si, the demographic for this car is young, 20--25. I remember seeing an informal poll when I first signed on here. I'm surprised more guys--and women, too--my age aren't in the driver's seat of a Honda Si.

Guys in their 40s, like me, are in a pretty small niche of Si-loving late bloomers. How many of us are there here? I'm curious to get an idea of how many of us are in our 30s and 40.

It's not just my Si that's GG, my hair is, too!

Any fellow middle-aged guys and gals who consider themselves dedicated Si fans?

(I feel like I just walked into an AA meeting)

Yep, I'm in the 40'ish age range and own and enjoy my Si. The Si was a big change from what I was shopping for, but I when I heard it was coming out it stirred a bit of nostalgia for my old '85 Prelude Si (which I loved), so I went out and got one (back in Dec '05). It is fun little car that enjoy driving and taking to the track.

My wife, on the other hand, still gives my eyeballs over the purchase of the Si. She still thinks I should have gotten the IS350 I was looking at, or the SLK. I will more than likely pick up a another car in the next year or so, but the Si will be kept for fun.

really?

dont feel wierd, that demographic is a bit off.

at my office, there 7 or 8 8th gens(of varying models)

out of the 7 or 8, 2 of us are young 20-25.

rest are all at least 30+ if not 40+

Hi, my name is Paul and I'm an old man, too (39). I never realized it until I bought my Si but everyone welcomes me just the same. My girl who is my age too thinks this is my early mid-life crisis solverand she hates it with a passion. I love my Si and sometimes it gets treated better than the girl. Maybe one of the reasons I come here so I can feel so not alone.

I'm 32.

Some women (older women) won't like this car because they are way, way too much into image and society bullshit. They are thinking Lexus, BMW, etc for status reasons. It always makes me laugh at people that think you should drive the maximum car you can afford to show off in society. Cars are horrible investments and the people that own them to keep up with the jones's are idiots

I'm in the group too - I'm 48. I bought the Si because I wanted it, pure and simple. I traded in a 2004 MINI Cooper S for it.

I get some strange looks from the kids pulling up beside me expecting to see another young'un. As for my wife, she likes the car and has learned to put up with my car addiction. In fact, she's almost as bad as me.

Males can get caught up in superficial status, society, and image factors when purchasing a car, too. To be fair, women are perhaps more practical (unimpressed by status and image marketing BS) when making car-buying decisions. Their purchaing power represent a growing part of the market, automobile manufactuerers are starting to recognize that.

I agree that women our age are less likely than guys our age to embrace the 2006 Honda Civic Si, mainly because the $20,000 price range offers a lot of other types of cars they might find more appealing. It's a boy car. Younger girls and guys dig it more than mature women do.

For guys my age, it's like an unexpected hormone injection. I'm getting thrills I never imagined. I bet you guys can testify to that, too.

My wife surpised me, she got behind it. When I was in the market for a Civic Coupe, I wanted to go all the way and get the '06 Si. It had just come out, the reviews were loaded with praise. Instead of being disapproving (of the higher price tag) my wife was totally into it. She agreed it's an incredible amount of car for the money, and fun to drive. She gave the thumbs up.

She's already a Honda driver. We have a 1999 CRV, a car she got attached to as soon as they came out. It's the most practical and reliable car we've ever owned.

Plus, she digs sportscars. She used to drive a Porcsche 911, before we met, and wants to own one again someday.

BUT... how will she feel now that I spend all my waking hours scheming about customizing my Si? (thanks to YOU guys, and this crazy forum) I can barely keep my credit card in my pocket!

Eh... How about 48. I may be the leader of the geezer patrol here. I've been through Integra's, BMW's, Mustang GT's, Trucks, you name it. My '07 Si is as much fun as my 325Ci was, but without the expense.
Your not alone in the "over the hill" gang.
Regards...
Bill.

Nope. I know of at least two older members who are 53 and 62.

As for myself, I'm 32 but most people say 24 or 25 so I probably don't stand out while driving my Si.
