New rant for the week.

Ok, so it isn't wednesday yet however it is technically "next week" so here for you is my new rant of the week.

First off I suppose I should explain why it is I rant. I don't do it for the attention, I don't do it so other people agree with me, I don't do it so people can give me rep points either. I rant on this forum because it helps me. I've had a long history of anger managment issues that have lead to all types of problems. From being kicked out of school to being arrested. A teacher helped me realize years ago that writing can really calm a person down.

I used to just write and read and delete but I figure if i'm going to write, i mine as well share it with others ya know? Sometimes it's just trivial things that make me angry, other times it's a cluster of things that make no sense when put together. Just a bunch of things that irk me over the week. This post, is with a bunch of things that' have bothered me over the week.

So now that you all know i'm not some attention whore; it's time to rant.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Co-Workers:

So as many of you know, I work in a restaurant. I say i'm a bartender because, well, that's what i do most of the time. Monday nights however I'm in the kitchen at night cooking, during the day's i'm handling catering orders, calling in deliveries for food and liquor and handling other tasks. Essentially in the morning I'm doing most of the management shit. I also train and help employees. Tonight, i was training an employee.

I've learned a few things over the past eight years i've worked in the restaurant industry and it's this; some people just aren't cut out for the job. This girl i was working with tonight has been working there for about a month. Every day she comes in it's like her first day all over again. She can't remember anything to save her life, is always complaining about high school and how she's tired, and always wants to leave early. Tonight I decided to set some things straight. We talked about school and how she needs to leave all of her baggage in her car and come into work with a clear head. I explain to her that when she comes into work in a bad mood with all this stuff on her mind, she can't work for shit. I also explained to her that no one gives a rats ass about her problems. I have a quote that I like to share with people and i'll share it with you all. Before I get into the quote, you should realize that i don't post this to really bitch or moan. Just to calm myself down, i don't care if people read it or not and I certainly don't look for sympathy. "90% of the people in the world don't care about your problems, the other 10% are glad it's happening to you." Now after this talk she seemed to take it rather well. Hopefully she will become a better worker because she is very talanted at cooking. But part of me isn't so sure and here is why..

For quite a few years there have been many high school students that have come and gone in the kitchen. And it always seemed that the ones who had great grades in school had the least amount of common sense. It's always the ones who don't do well in school that really stand out when it's balls to the walls with orders out the ass in the kitchen. I'm not sure why but that's just the case. This girl has a 95 overall average in highschool and is taking all advanced classes. I hope she breaks the mold. I think it's because their used to thinking so hard that they just "overthink" in the kitchen and can't see something that's right infront of them. And that is something that pisses me off. I wasn't the best in school (i was bored in school really) and I have always had great pride in my street smarts. I might not know chemestry or trig, but i can wheel and deal and schmooze with the best of them. It just pisses me off to meet people that can't do that. How can people have no common sense? How are these people the ones who get the big engineering jobs? I'm sorry but being book smart and only book smart means your dumb. It means you can read and regurgitate. How should that ability deem you to be "intelligent"?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another rant of mine is when people don't respond to you when you ask a question.

In business practice it's very unprofessional and in general it's just bad taste and extremly rude. If i call you with a question and get your voice mail, or if i call you to see if you want to hang out. Call back. Even if you don't know the answer or don't want to hang out, don't leave me hanging and guessing. This also goes for e-mailes and other forms of communication. I do not like to be ignored. If plans fell though or something isn't going to happen. Let me know. If I think there's an offer on the table and it's something i want. I wait for a response. If the offer is no longer on the table then fine, no hard feelings, i'm quite pleased actually because now I can move on and find another offer.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lastly (i have plenty more to rant about but i'll save it for next week), people on this forum can really piss me off.

Now I know very well that getting angry at someone over the internet is about the dumbest thing one can do. The one thing i do get pissed off about is something that happens in the real world too, so i justify being angry because of that reason. Why is it that some people get a free pass while others get slammed for doing the same shit?

Here's a grand example. Big shot john doe was the first to really modify his civic and everyone tried to follow in his footsteps. He knew the most, posted information the most, and everyone loved him. Yay john doe! John doe could put graphics all over his car and hook up the sickest jensen stereo system walmart's ever sold and people would still praise john doe. Nothing he did was "rice". Here enters noobie joe schmo. Joe schmo posts a question on how to install his new aftermarket automatic shift knob. Everyone slams joe, calls him an idiot, a ricer, a loser. This is joe's first post and everyone is tearing him a new asshole. Joe just wan't to know how to install it. If people don't know the question then they shouldn't respond. If they think it's rice, perhaps they should go eat some uncle bens microwavable bowls to find out what rice actually f*cking is. First off, RICE means nothing. Rice is a starchy food for f*ck sake. A car, is not a grain of rice. It doesn't matter WHAT the god damn car looks like, it makes no sense to call something rice. Calling a car Rice was sooooo fast and the furious. I figured since most of the people on this website are in their 20-30's they'd be a little more mature and realize how dumb it is to call something rice. But alas, joe's automatic shift knob is rice. If it was john who installed an auto shift knob, people would practically blow him off because he's so cool, but joe's an idiot. How the f*ck does this make sense to people? At what point in time can you say "yup, that makes perfect sense"?

People with a m/t slam people with an a/t, si's slam non si's. It's all so pointless. Does anyone see that? We all drive a honda civic. It's a car, that gets good gas mileage and is good at getting up to speed on the highway. There are millions of cars faster then an SI but yet si owners still rag on a lowly lx a/t. Good god. Why is it someone people on here are deemed "cool" while others are deemed ricers and idiots. Is it because people on this board weren't in the popular group in high school so this is their way of getting revenge? Do people feel that if they have a 5spd that their balls hang lower then those with an automatic transmission? Is there really a need to rag on a kid because their first post was about how to paint their dash black? If you don't know how to correctly paint a dash, then don't post. If you wanna call the kid an idiot or make fun of him, go punch a baby. I can think of about 15 people on here who would be praised if they painted their dash on their sheer fact that they are "cool". You are not the modding police people. You are not the hitlers of car modification. No one gives a rats ass if you think that painting a dash black is a stupid idea. No one thinks you have a bigger prick because you bash someones first post. Your the idiot, your the one with no class. Your the impotent one who walks around in a pissy mood because they can no longer get it up. I've already stated my excuse for why I get into arguments or get mad at people over the internet. Mines because somedays i just look for a fight, wether it's verbal or physical. What's your excuse for picking on people instead of helping them? And for god sakes can we ban the word "rice" on this forum? That word should be banned from the Freedom of Speech in car forums. I just don't understand why some people can be called names for doing something while others can be praised for doing the same thing. Someone on here recently got a lil sliding cover for the compartment up by the shifter. I thought to myself "is this person daft? I mean they spent $100 for a lil f*cking slidy cover thingy. That money could be spent on beer or ciggs. Give me the money and i'll punch you in the nuts and everything will be even." That is what i thought. However, i didn't become angry over it. It was that persons money and to them that's something they found no problem spending $100 on. Who am I to tell them that was a silly thing to do? I kept my opinion to myself. I might not be able to do that ALL the time, but i try to.

In case people are missing the point (i did tend to jump around up there a bit), here's my point. Stop treating others better then new comers because they've been around for awhile and have a cool civic. These new people might could wind up getting a company to make a new product for our cars. Give people a break. You might not agree with their decision but if someone asks a question and you don't like it, don't post. Leave it alone. There's no need to slam someone over something so inane? And for the love of whatever you believe in. Please stop calling things rice other then the little starchy things that taste great with crisped and paired with milk and bananas.

Rice Krispies with milk and bananas? Sounds yummy.

But seriously, it's good that you can release your frustrations and let yourself be heard.

Is that question rhetorical? The answer should be self-evident. Your so-called 'smart' folks got the grades to go to college to get the degree that qualifies them to do 'engineering'. Your great workers that are, unfortunately, "D" students did not. The world is full of the "do'ers" (your skilled tradesmen, etc) and your 'planners' (those that got the advanced degrees). I have nothing but respect for true skilled tradesmen. They do a quality job, quickly, efficiently, and with knowledge of forethought for their process, however, strategic vision is not typically a forte you will find in your electrician or welder.

I do agree that some 'smart' people think too much to perform many manual tasks well. That is the problem, they cannot shut off the 'thinking' and just 'do'. I've had a number of both sorts come through my various offices. The key (at least for me) is appropriate task loading. I need "do'ers" and 'planners' both to do all the tasks that I need done in my various operations.

I think you just nailed it perfectly janizary. They can't turn of that "thinking" part of their brain and just do something and fly by the seat of the pants. It just drives me nuts when there's like only 6 orders on the line and these people can't time everything out, get everything cooking and cook it to perfection and have it all plated and going out at the same time. I understand that for me it's second nature because i've been doing it for years but sometimes it's the most simplistic order and they just freeze up.

I've alwasys stressed balance in the world and you need people who can be engineers and you need people who can be welders. Not everyone can think the same and be the same because it wouldn't be good for society. I just wish i could tap into their brain sometimes and have them see it the way I do and go "Oh shit, that's not hard at all"
