Bush revises U.S. space policy WASHINGTON (AP) - President George W. Bush has signed an order asserting the United States's right to deny adversaries access to space for hostile purposes. Bush also said the United States would oppose the development of treaties or other restrictions that seek to prohibit or limit U.S. access in space. The provisions were contained in the first revision of U.S. space policy in nearly 10 years. Bush's order, signed more than a month ago, was not publicly announced although unclassified details of his decision were posted on the website of the Office of Science and Technology Policy. "Freedom of action in space is as important to the United States as air power and sea power," the policy says. "In order to increase knowledge, discovery, economic prosperity, and to enhance the national security, the United States must have robust, effective and efficient space capabilities." The policy says that space systems should have rights of passage without interference, and that the United States would view any deliberate interference with its space systems as an infringement on its rights. "The United States considers space capabilities - including the ground and space segments and supporting links - vital to its national interests," the policy said. The White House said the policy does not call for the development or deployment of weapons in space. "This policy emphasizes that the United States is committed to peaceful uses of space by all nations and that space systems enjoy the right of free passage," National Security Council spokesman Frederick Jones said. http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=71349 US Curbs Free Access to Space Politics: 18 October 2006, Wednesday. The Bush Administration issued a document that outlines the States' right to space access as part of country's National Space Policy. George Bush authorized the document that puts particular emphasis on ensuring access to and control of space. "In this new century, those who effectively utilize space will enjoy added prosperity and will hold a substantial advantage over those who do not", reads the text. Elsewhere, the document notes that the US must not only have the ability to freely access space and stop those who would deny the US that right, the US must be able to "deny, if necessary, adversaries the use of space capabilities hostile to U.S. national interests".

Oh f***ing hell. What on earth is he going to pull out of his ass next? The US's ownership of the moon? While we're at it, lets just add on the Sun for extra measure. Or how about Mars? I've had enough of this guy. Is it close to the next elections yet?
No. His next move is "I now declare myself King of the World."

Funny thing is, back in the day, I really thought he was the coolest.
Goofy or not, he's better than Gore and Kerry's wife scared me. Oh well, so, we own space now? I wonder how much advertising space costs at the moment.

It's about damn time we took over space!!! I mean, hasn't it been totally obvious for quite some time now that the US clearly deserves ownership of outer space.
Now it's time to cash in on our new ownership... *Insert sarcasm were felt necessary* P.S. - G.W. looks like he was meant to wear that robe and crown. |
