A bit of history for ya...
1985 was the year the Civic Si hit U.S. streets. Based on the already sporty Civic "S" model, the Si gave the Civic's 1.5-liter powerplant some much-needed fuel injection. Thus, the "S" stands for "sport", so "Si" stands for "sport injection". |

Good Honda history there, Jasonandres! The Si is the Si for nostalgic reasons, and because it has always stood for performance. However, Honda states that this was an '86 model, and that's why this is the 20th anniversary model. Speaking of '86, ever notice how our engines have a 86mm bore and 86mm stroke? Cool.

jasonandre is right about that. When I was first looking at civics and learned that it was the 8th gen, I wanted to see all of the previous ones. All you have to do is type History of civic si on the internet and you will get all of this info.
I asked everyone I knew what Si stood for and no one knew. I got more Sports Illustrateds than anything else. I finally looked it up a few months ago and found out. |
