School Bans Tag... wtf.

Okay, this is just stupid. Please tell me the upsides of being a kid these days? You get to dress like a skank, but not play TAG? You can play video games that you can shoot cops... but you can't play TAG?! You can get super-sized meals at McDonalds (for the game peices ) but you can't play freaking TAG?! touch football!? oh... my... gosh.

When I was in elementary school people got hurt every day because we played full contact soccer. Slide tackling for the win!

EDIT: here's the link to the actual article:
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/10/18/no.tag.ap/index.html
-----------
School bans tag, other chase games

ATTLEBORO, Massachusetts (AP) -- Tag, you're out!

Officials at an elementary school south of Boston have banned kids from playing tag, touch football and any other unsupervised chase game during recess for fear they'll get hurt and hold the school liable.

Recess is "a time when accidents can happen," said Willett Elementary School Principal Gaylene Heppe, who approved the ban.

While there is no districtwide ban on contact sports during recess, local rules have been cropping up. Several school administrators around Attleboro, a city of about 45,000 residents, took aim at dodgeball a few years ago, saying it was exclusionary and dangerous. (Watch how second-grader Kelsey interpreted the rule -- 1:30)

Elementary schools in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Spokane, Washington, also recently banned tag during recess. A suburban Charleston, South Carolina, school outlawed all unsupervised contact sports.

"I think that it's unfortunate that kids' lives are micromanaged and there are social skills they'll never develop on their own," said Debbie Laferriere, who has two children at Willett, about 40 miles south of Boston. "Playing tag is just part of being a kid."

Another Willett parent, Celeste D'Elia, said her son feels safer because of the rule. "I've witnessed enough near collisions," she said.

When I read this thread title, I thought you meant that schools had banned TAG body spray. I pictured young womens attacking young men in the hallways for some love and affection.

I was like, holy $hit, that stuff actually works?!? I gotsta gets me some.

But, I was only disappointed yet again...

wtf? WHY

That's so stupid! Let kids be kids, and teach them not to be little punks when they grow up. People get hurt. Let's deal with it, not be scared of it.

If people are scared that their kids are going to get hurt while playing tag, I'd like to see those same parents when their kids start driving.

If your kids (more so for boys) haven't had AT LEAST a few stiches by age 10, then he's not having fun.

cause, if you play tag on flat ground. its not so dangerous. If you play on junglegyms or whatever, you got kids running around 5-10 mph above the ground, when something happens. its usually pretty bad. I slipped and fell playing tag, and sliced a part of my ear off. I bled for a hour and had my ear stiched back on.

Guess what, i was back on the playground playing tag the next day.

I slipped and fell another time, off the pole thing your supposed to slide down, except i hit the pole and fell headfirst into the ground. Cracked my skull open.

Guess what, i was playing tag again the next day.

I didnt care, tag is fun! Boo on conservative lame ass parents..

exactly. Kids bounce... =)

I think people should be more worried about sex predators than a game of tag. just my opinion at least.

I'm moving to the Outback or the Tundra. I've had enough of this crap. This generation is being turned into a generation of F***ing pu55ys.

Agreed.
Most conservatives believe in rolling with the punches anyway. But I don't think this is a liberal or conservative issue. It's society as a whole. We steralize everything, radiate our food, add new genetic strains to veggies; helmets on bikes, skate boards, rollerblades; car seats until they're practially 12; airbag, safety line; don't pick on the little guy, don't spank, don't yell, don't upset junior, politically correct as not to offend the world, no cussing; too much violence parenal controling games and tv; Ritalin injesting, high protein packed our damned kids to the point that they are adults. When you think about how "protected" kids are today it makes you wonder how previous generations survived beyond the womb.

And then we sit back and wonder why little Suzy is wiggling her tatas in way too tight clothing while little Joey is giving her the shocker in the playground after school. We've taken away all that keeps them kids. We as a nation have allowed the government to take away parental rights. Yes, the liberals of the late 80's and early 90's paved the way for this but the conservatives didn't exactly fight back. Now look. I don't want kids because the thrill is lost beyond 3 then they own you. Plus, I'd probably do 10 years in jail for spanking my shoplifting, back talking punk when a rapist is off in 3.

My hat is off to every parent out there. Parent's get blamed for a lot but really, their hands are tied. I wish it were easier for them. I wish I could see more of them smiling before the kids go off to college. It seems like from the time the kids are 4 until they are 18 they look stressed beyond all belief.

Sorry. That friggin story just really pissed me off.
