Microsoft Vista

I think it's called Vista, not too sure. Anybody used it/toyed around with it? If so, how was it? What was better/what wasn't? When does it even come out?

Ive fooled around with it, microsoft released vista RC1 to the public a little bit ago. IMO although really really pretty looking, it sucks. There are lots of features built in to keep people from seriously messing up their computers that just realy annoying for anyone who knows what they are doing. I was also not thrilled with the performance, my computer scored a 3.9 out of 5 for the vista computer score and when it tried doing some of the animations it started to get really bad. The score is microsofts new idea, instead of having to check system requirements when buying software you look for this score out of 5 and if your computer meets or exceeds that score your computer is suitable to run the software.

All in all i have no intention of purchasing vista when it is released to the public, il stick with XP and Ubuntu Linux

I've toyed with it too and although it's great eye candy, it's frigging demanding in terms of system specifications. There are still quite a bit bugs to work out, but there's still plenty of months for it to be released.

There are rumours that Vista is limiting to the number of installations to 2. If that's true, then I'm going to freak out as I format on a bi-monthly basis.

I've heard about the installation limitation as well.. so, if you make enough hardware changes at once... like a new motherboard... or add 4 hard drives... or something to that effect... you'll have to reactivate, and you can only do that once... if you need to make another hardware change, you'll have to go to the store and buy a new $499 USD copy of Vista Ultimate, because the first copy you bought is now worthless...

I'll stick with my Mac, and I'll stick with my existing copies of XP, x64, Server 2003, etc, etc.... I really don't like someone telling me how often I can reinstall software when I've legitimately paid for it..

Im sure just like XP when you go to reformat and it says its already registered u can call them and tell them that you reformat, with my corprate edition i have to do that at work all the time because we have 20 copies but have like 25 computers... so i just tell them i had to reformat some. and they work
