No 56K?

Well, I always see this on the threads that have a lot of pics, but I got to wondering, who actually still has 56K? There can't be that many people...right?

I had 56K when I was in purgatory for 6 months. It's a lot like walking vs. driving. After I got my license, I said "f*ck being a pedestrian ever again...."

DSL <<<< Cablespeed though...

I don't know anyone who is still victimized by 56K.

My mother in law has dial up and she doesn't have cable TV. My husband said it's like slow painful torture.

Canadian broadband prices are really cheap, so I've had broadband since about grade 4 or 5 (I bet that made you guys feel old, eh?!!?).

Another thing I noticed is how expensive the pricing is on cell phone plans in America.. damn.

I unforntunately still have 56k at home (very high speed at work) due to the fact that i live in the boonies. Cable TV ends 1/2 mile from my house and I think our phone lines were put in the ground by Alexander Graham Bell himself, so they are too old to support DSL. Satellite isn't really an option due to cost and high latency.

i think that we should stop using 56k references in titles of threads as it limits the exposure that threads will get when searching via search engines, and anyone who has it seriously needs to get with the times, its not that expensive anymore (no offsense tegrady guy)

Sounds like time for a Verizon Wireless Lan card. Verizon does have the nation's best all over network.

Can you hear me now?

I'm an old fart. I don't think I even heard of the internet until I was in college the first time about 12-14 years ago.

I still know a friend of mine that has 56k. He's like the cheapest of the cheap, he's the one you see at in n out whose bill rings up as $5.01 and he'll start searching the floor for a penny instead of breaking a dollar (Yes, true story, he actually did this lol). Dunno how he can stand it, but now he's off to college with a T3 connection so we'll see how well he adjusts to snail internet once he comes back lol.

You probably can't have DSL because your too far from the phone company (where the magic happens)...I had that problem at my former residence, a suburban neighborhood). We were like literally 1/2 mile too far away...I don't toally understand these things (this is per my geek buddy). None the less we just got cable modem....sucks you cant get cable modem

I've been satisfied with my internet performance since I got Roadrunner. Before, I had DSL with the local phone company which was horrible. It would bog down on me constantly. I don't know if that is true for DSL in general though. Before that, I had dial-up. Once I got cable internet, there has been no going back.

Exactly. The limit for DSL is 8000 feet of copper between you and a DSLAM, which is usually in a Central Office or sometmes in a SLC cabinet in your neighborhood. I'm at around 38000 feet from my CO.
