These past three days I was in South Carolina because my grandmother had passed away. I haven't been taking this well so I feel like writing about this Those of you who know I am fond of light houses.(pictures of Cape May light house and my Car) Pix of my SI! Finally! so here it is. This is very hard for me to ask since I am still not a VIP member but it means alot to me. The first time I ever saw Morris Light house was when I was about 14 years old and my late uncle took me on a four seater plane and we flew over it. Then in 2003 while visiting my Aunt & Uncle, my two cousins, and grand parent's I saw the light house on the way to Folly Beach. I went to a local store and donated money to the save the light foundation and got a shirt in the process. Yesterday after the memorial service for my grandmother I found Wendsday's newspaper and on the cover of it was Morris Light. In the artical it had stated that the State, Army core of Engineres, and the "Save the Light Foundation" are meeting Friday to sign the first plan to restore it. The light house was built in 1879 and stands 150ft tall. Due to tide changes and a few hurricanes and beach errosion the light house is all that remains and is now surrounded by water. It is now called Morris Island. On low tide you can walk out to the light house and on high tide it is completely surrounded by water. The plan is to build a new foundation for the light house. The original foundation is built out of wood and 1/4 of the foundation has been eaten by ship worms causing it to have a slight lean. The Save the Light Foundation fears that it will not survive anouther hurricane.
Please make a donation and browse the sight and get a full history of the Morris Light House. It would mean alot to me. http://www.savethelight.org/join.htm Morris light 1900's ![]() Morris light today
