Things to do in/around vegas

Im gonna be taking a road trip here soon to go visit my girlfriend back in CA for a couple weeks and we are gonna take a few days and head out to vegas for a little R&R. Its been a few years since ive been there but last time i went it seems like all we did was drink...gamble...repeat...untill we lost all of our money and went home with our tails between our legs. Id like to get out and do some other fun things besides just drink any gamble....any good ideas for a couple in their mid twenties to go have some fun? Im not against driving a bit either but would like to keep it within an hour or so radius of Vegas. Any must see shows/attractions/etc?

Where are you staying?

You pretty much hit the nail in the coffin. There isn't much to do in vegas but drink and gamble. There's the occasional tidbit such as shopping, visiting hotels for foods and attractions, but that's about it. I stayed at the Mandalay Bay last year and there was a beach on the hotel front. That was awesome.

Within an hour of Vegas?

Not much beyond what you have listed.

-Hover Dam tour
-Heli tour of the strip or Heli tour of the Grand Canyon
-Indoor skydiving
-Crazy rides at 1300' on top of Stratosphere Tower
-Legal Whore houses in Pahrump (no, I'm not kidding)
-Red Rock Canyon hiking
-Hot springs hike
-Mt. Charleston hot tub cabins
-The GM Experience at the Sands (Drive GM cars on a mini race track)
-More strip clubs than one man can possibly survive (and OG's has a women's area as well)
-Racespringmountain.com
-Pahrump speedball/hyperball/scenario paintball
-Lake Mead and 'Lake Mead tours' (old paddle boat tours that take you around the Lake, though I don't think they go up to the dam like they used to. You can thank extremist muslim terrorists for that...)

A bit further afield you have:

-Grand Canyon
-Zion national park
-Grand Canyon Caverns
-Historic Barstow California (okay, I am kidding now)

Frankly, there is just not alot around Vegas. It is in the middle of the desert, based on the gaming industry (no, it is NOT the 'family' destination that the city has been trying to market for the last decade), next to a drought ridden lake. At the end of the day, Vegas is about gambling, and the various associated vices. If you don't want to do that, Vegas is not for you.

Lol. Yeah, you can do that here in several gun stores. Uzis, Mac 10, Thompson subs, grease guns, M16, MP5, MP5SD, and LOTs more. Bring a wad of cash though. You'll go through bullets fast.

And lets not forget the Rio Seafood Buffet. Which is an attraction in and of itself. All the crab, lobster, oysters, etc. you can shove in your pie hole.

4ish hours. Vegas to Boulder City to Kingman to Williams to GC. Its a drive. (Much faster if you go to 'Rent an Exotic' and rent a Ferrari for the day)

Or you can take a helicopter tour flying out of Las Vegas to the GC.

It's pricey, but you should check out one of the Cirque de Soleil shows. I like ""O" at the Bellagio the best. My favorite place to gamble is the Hard Rock. You should check out the Pink Taco there for mexican and they have $5 3 card poker tables. Good music and a younger, hipper crowd. Same for the Palms- you can get a tat at Corey Hart's place. I go to Vegas for a trade show every year for 10 days so I know it well. Too well.....

Personally I despise both thr Hard Rock and The Palms (too many pretentious assholes)...and expensive for drinks and hard/impossible to find cheap tables...then again im 28 and the crowd in these establishments tend to be a bit younger...just my .02
