International View of Americans

I was watching a good program on CNN and they made a point that people around the world base our country and people off television media. Shows like family guy, simpsons and our movies are broadcasted around the world. I believe this to be true for the people with no connections to america to base us on this media.
I would like to hear from the people from other countries if this is true. Is media really destroying our reputation? Comments?

It goes both ways. American sees a women in a burqa on CNN, thinks all Muslim countries are oppressive, etc.

Also, I think our foreign policy is hurting our image a whole hell of a lot more than Family Guy
