Angry Cop A**H***, what should I do?

First off, this is a kinda long post so if you dont feel like reading, you know...
So me and a buddy of mine were crusin on our way to the store last night when we come up to a line of cars and cop lights flashing in front of it all. I figured there was a wreck up ahead, but no... I was on the right lane of two lanes and this cop and two tow guys were motioning with their flash lights to merge to the left lane, so I proceeded to merge when the cop ran out in front of my car and said to pull over, so I pulled over wondering wtf! When I pulled over I saw a couple other cars that have been pulled also. Cop came up and the usual license and registration please... Said he pulled me over for no front plates, gave 'em my insurance paper and he said it's expired so he added that to the ticket (could'nt find the up to date one ). Next he said to sign the ticket and to hurry up, but I told him I wanted to read it first before I signed and all of a sudden... He tells me "You dont need to read Sh**, just sign the damn paper and get the hell outta here... you wanna go to jail tonight or what!", all I wanted to do is read the ticket before signing and in the next second he calls over one of the towing guys and tells him to get my car ready to be towed..., because I didnt want to sign the paper, but I truly just simply wanted to read it. So under all this pressure and being threathened, plus not wanting that tow guy touch my SI I signed the paper... . Cop tells me to get on outta there so I proceed and while I was getting back on the road one of the towing guys tells me "welcome to 'street name' bitch!". Needless to say I was extremely pissed at what had happened , so I wanted to ask you guys what I could do? I know I could dismiss the insurance, but what about the front plate? Could I dismiss that? Also could I file a complaint on the officer and towing guys? Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post, just felt like I needed to get that out...

Ohio is a front plate state too but I'm not running one. Normally if people get stopped for not having a working feature or plate on the car, the state allows then 2 or 3 days to comply then have someone check and get the warning/citation voided. Call your local cop shop for details. Both the insurance and plate issue should be able to be resolved quickly. Sorry to hear that the cop was being rough. Might want to mention that to someone but we warned that they cover each other very well.

Nice area you live in there. Take the ticket to court. Filing a complaint isn't going to get you very far. From the sound of it, the cops there are such asses that you'll just have to deal with more b.s. If you need to have plates on the front and you don't, you'll have to accept your ticket. You admitted that your registration or insurance was expired, you'll have to accept that as well.

Go by the precinct after shift change. He probably owns a SRT4.

Yeah, the insurance deal isn't going to be a problem. You just have to show (back-dated) proof, which you have. The front plate...you might have to put that sucker on there for a while. The asshat cop? You're just going to have to learn to live with those creeps. They're everywhere.

I must say, most cops are cool. A lot of them get into the job because they want to help. Some get into it because they failed at everything else, so they get power happy when they put on the uniform. Those are the guys that give cops a bad name.

Exactly. I know alot of cops are pretty cool and that's partly the reason why I was shocked... I guess I just got categorized in the group of street racing because when I was passing the cop scene the gas station was super packed with trucks with crew stickers and cars revvin and such...

Wow those cops def. seem like a-holes, last night i was drivin with my boyfriend and we turned onto this straight-away street and the minute he floors it and the car burns out a cop comes outta the projects.... the cop comes up to the car or w/e and hes like what happened and my boyfriend lied his pants off like this is my first time drivin standard and my foot slipped off the clutch i'm not used to it. Cop believed it and told us to leave.. and he didn't have his license on him either. Gotta love Waterbury, CT

I dont know, but it seems like lately i been destined to get into some trouble without causing any trouble... For instance, me, the same buddy, and my cousin went on a little trip down to mcallen,tx for a few days and crossed the border to go visit my buddie's grandma. On our way back crossing the border security looked at me suspiciously and said to pull over, asked a lot of questions, 3 to 4 security guys looked inside my car (the Si), said to drive over to the big machine and drive up the ramp, and got us all out of the car. We sat there laughing our a**es off , watching as this machine moved along from the front of the car to the back and back to the front to do an X-ray on the car... Security went over to my car looked inside my car... again . Came over asked us some more unecessary questions:rolleyes: and still couldnt find anything on us and let us go... I guess cause im young and when they see me in a new car they automatically think Im some kind of drug dealer or something:rolleyes: , but I just keep rolling

2 things u can do:

1. appeal the ticket and go to a hearing...99.9% sure he won't show up or they will keep postponing your hearing date until they get tired n forget all about it. You'll win either case...
2. File a complaint against that cop because he needs to write down his name, precint # and badge # on the ticket. If he didnt do any of those then u might as well show the ticket to the DMV and they will dismiss it regardless of the infraction committed.

Just because they have power over us doesn't mean they can break the bill of rights and unjustifiably give out tickets just bc they have had a bad day, etc. A profession should be handled in the most professional manner possible.

yea I thought I had the right to read what I signed before I signed, so he was obiously denying my rights... He was bitching with his tow guy friends on how I thought this was a library and I wanted to read a book... I swear I wanted to smack him and his boyfriends right there, but you know what would happen then, I guess it's not worth it sometimes...

At the scene, you could have requested to speak to his on duty Sergeant. They would have sent him over there on request.

If you requested that and said I know my rights, he would have complied. If he said no, he wouldn't, I would have proceeded to call 911 to get an on duty sergeant to the scene, and document everything on the 911 phone call. At that point, he could not tow your car if you recorded it on 911.

But either way, you would have gotten a fix-it ticket for no front plates. Hope this helps all future drivers or just regular people getting hassled by the cops. You can always call an on duty sergeant to the scene.

I would not recommend using 911 to request the duty sergeant. You're tying up an emergency line with a non emergency issue. It is true that you can call the desk sergeant, be prepared to wait. If you choose to do that, call the non emergency line like the Desk Sergeant or Watch Commander. Please, do not tie up 911 with anything other than an emergency.

yeah listen to this crap.. i got pulled over and he goes to the car and come back with a ticket

Cop:seems like you have xx tickets since 2002 and with the PBJ you got 2 weeks ago, if judge sees it he's gonna double your fine from before(not true btw)
Me: Thanks(in a smart way)
Cop: No problem, I work for the government.

and he proceeds to SCRATCH out the fine and double it up ON the spot.

I was in a unfamiliar area and in unfamliar car so I don't know what I should do. I hate cops...damn rook!

The spot I bolded is why you got the doubled fine. I hate to say it, but you wrote your own fate with attitude. Give 'em attitude, they give you a present. Now, why did the cop in NY have your car towed?

Sorry to hear you being harrass by a cop and a tow trucker driver. Texas law do demand all Texas citizen to have a driver license plate in front and back of the car. I would press charge against the cop too. If I was treat like that.
