Fast Cars & Stupid People!!!!!!
Well, Im a happy owner of a Civic Si. It's not the fastest car on the road, but it handles great and I love the interior with the Navi. My friend owns an 04 SRT4. I know this is not a car related part of the forum, but this post doesn't belong in a performance part of the forum.
You all know that the SRT4 is a fast car. Right now it's the fastest true Sport Compact(Front Wheel Drive and 4 Cylinder) car on the road. He has mods on the car too. If you have ever driven an SRT4 you know what I am talking about. Any who, my friend is one of those that always talks about how great his car is. Bragging that he can beat other people with his car and all that. Even trying to impress those young, little girls that hang out at the local mall arcade. Im sure you know the type Im describing. In any case, with me he tends to be more down to Earth, because he knows that I dont eat all that shit he talks and also that, even though his car is faster, I am a better driver then him. So the week that I go my Si I met him at the mall to show him the car. When we were leaving the mall he thought i was walking to my old car and then he was surprised when he saw the Fiji Blue Si. He went inside and had a little grin like he liked the car, but didn't want to admit it. After that he asked me to follow him to the local gas station to put air in his tires. I asked him why the hell dose he need me to follow him just to put air in his tires? He told that he did not know how to. I honestly thought he was $hitting me, but when we arrived at the gas station he really did not how to do it. I mean, I tell him to just get the hose and start putting air until you get 32psi. When he approaches the tire, he just stares at the tire not knowing what to do. I could not believe what I was seeing. This guy brags about his car, always using tech terms here and there, and he cant put air in his tires???? This may sound boring to you, but Im sure everyone in this forums knows someone that act like they know everything about cars. But in reality their just posers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is funny as hell... My co-wroker, who sits next to me, is a 27 year old guy who drives a 2005 BMW 330i and is completely clueless when it comes to car stuff. I asked him once if the exaust manifold goes in the front of his car or in the back... He said it goes in the back! LOL... Also he thinks his tires are run flat even after they are completely flat/out of air and the rim is sitting on the pavement!!!! Poor BMW....

I'll agree that putting air is something you should know. But, if you notice that not everyone is a car-nut, but just wants to have a nice car...then there's nothing wrong with not really knowing much about the mechanics of one.

No excuse for a 20 something (much less a male) not knowing really basic car maitenenace. Especially maintaining tire pressure since that is potentially the most dangerous.
But the important thing is he asked. I imagine he was pretty embarassed and he probably could have figured it out himself with ease, but at least that is better than the people that never attack the problem and end up with a blown tire on the freeway or nearly having a cooked engine (like just about all the female members of our family) Oh wait, they didn't ask, they were lucky my dad and I check their oil. Whenever my sisters get in town the first thing that happens after hugs is a trip to the driveway to check fluid and tire pressure. The best was when I checked one of my sister's oil levels and there was nothing on the stick. I asked when was the last time she checked her oil. "Um, when was the last time you checked it?" she asked. It had been over a year before. Thankfully it would seem her engine escaped damage. |

Thats nuts. Thank god I can work on my own car. I do laugh, though, when I'm doing something as simple as refilling my tires or checking the oil and some guy comes over to help. I always say "thank you" and politely decline. If they ask if I know what I'm doing I try not to strangle them with the air hose.

They're special tires that have reinforced sidewalls so that, even if there is absolutely no air in the tire, it can still be driven on and won't damage the rim. There are restrictions on them of course - no speeds over 50mph and a maximum driving distance of ~80 miles. And once you've done that, the tire is dead and MUST be replaced. But they'll get you to a service station or tire dealer without having to put on a spare. Head over to TireRack and search for runflat tires. You'll find they're becoming more common. |

i thought my friend only knows how to put gas in the car, but if u wanna get that technical (put air in the tires) then i guess he knows how to do a lot on the car. it kinda gets me to know that there are people on the road who know such little about the machines that they operate.
