who's better with money: women or men?

I have been having this discussion on a different forum and thoguht I would get the 8thgen's opinions too.

So, in you relationship, or maybe with your parents, who is in control of the money? I understand most people share their money, but there is generally one person that pays the bills and when finacing things is the first to look at the fincial side of things, who is that?

Here is a clip from/forum the other thread:

But, I am also far more better at book keeping because of what I do.

On the other hand, you just contridicted yourself in a way. If women always end up handling the money, then why would they care if you are frugal or not? They will know everything you spend.

meh, i am explaining it too much. money can be a funny thing... it can attract the wrong chick, or push away the right by acting like a "baller". it can impress someone simply by means of expressing that you are doing well for yourself through making the right choices, therefore you have the money to treat yourself and are willing to treat someone you are interested in. it can also come across as you wanting to buy your way into a girl's pants. i say, just put the coupon next to your credit card/cash, and when the bill comes, slide it all out and put it in the book: she never has to know. if the waiter/waitress says anything about the coupon, delete the tip.

My point here is that while your father spent 20k on his "toy," how much has your mother spent on cloths that she doesn't need? I don't know your mother, but I know mine and I can tell you she has probably spent close to that in the time I've lived with them. I think men have a problem spending $20 on a plate at dinner, but no problem spending $20k on "toy," women are the opposite from what I see; yet both spend about the same in the long run IMO.

In my relationship, my wife to be was somewhat impulsive and so was I to point. Now that we have fincial goals, we both have become very reaponsible and frugal. I make sure we are both in accpetable cars, my truck duals as a farm truck, so it is a bit more expenive, but I bought the cheapest one I could and it still be useable. 5 years ago I would have bought the best one there was and not thought twice about it.

Back on topic
On the first date, probably no coupon. But after that I would because you want to show her who you really are and how you are in "real life." Don't try to be some high roller or some miser that spends their whole life counting pennies, be whoever you are.

[quote=Jrfish007]Yeah, I've seen it both ways too. Interesting on your last comment on maturity, a recent study showed that women (as most of us know) tend to mature faster in their early years, in other words they hit puberty faster. But then they get stuck in this "teeny" type of age until their mid-late 20's when they move on to this adult type stage; where as men (even though they hit puberty later) tend to hit this adult stage faster, early 20's. Now this is definitely thread hi jacking But I thought it was an interesting study.[/quoute]

So what are your thoguhts/comments?

Uh oh. You're going to create a death battle here.

I'll admit, in my relationship, my husband is WAY better with money. With him controlling it we always have some. The only down fall though, is that he's such a friggin' tightwad we never have any fun. Going to the movies all the time does not constitue fun for me. Its just like sitting on my couch watching DVDs only I can't wear pajamas and pop corn and soda costs $10!

Well with my parents, my mom controls the bills and my dad splurges, but he gets to since he makes most of the $$$$.

Me, I have receipts from last year along with my collection of bills. All placed in a file cabinet. I have been a freak about it since I got my old car borken into and could not prove what the purchase price on stereo stuff was. So lost all that money.

I dunno. It really depends on the person, but I don't think women or men are that great at saving money. A recent study showed modern day women would rather have a Plasma TV than a pair of shoes. So it's really a toss up.

That poll was Plasma vs. Shoes. The next poll was Plasma vs. LCD. More women chose the LCD.

Speaking of which, my cousin's hooking me up with a 60" LG LCD for less than $1100, including warranty. I love the scratched stuff. He said there's no visible scratches on the front at all, but there's a small chip on the bottom on one of the posts.

Education, background, and experience will determine who is 'better' with money. Men vs. Women has nothing to do with it.

I expect my wife to take care of her own finances. I run the family finances and the larger bills, and am the gatekeeper of larger financial decisions. However, my background, education, and experience are in finance. To be clear, however, my wife and I have separate accounts, separate bills, etc., and I expect her to take care of her expenses, be frugal in purchases, and to notify me of any potential purchases that could affect the family budget (which I control) and of any potential problems. Frankly, the idea of having sole responsibility for the family money would drive me up the wall. The concept of giving my wife an 'allowance' is just so foreign, that I cannot fathom it. At the end of the day, I want a partner who can handle their own responsibilies and not have to be their financial baby sitter.
