digital camera options
ok i have a nice camera(canon SD300) that takes decent pictures... small, and easy to carry around since i do use it A LOT
but I want something that is semi-automatic but not SLR type that can adjust focus so that I can focus the camera on the object of my choice, not let the camera decide for me but I dont' want an SLR type cuz it's bigger... I am not a professional photographer so I don't know the terminalogy but you get the idea :) |

the digital rebel has the ability to run in a fully automatic mode, and you arent going to see a huge increase in quality from your current camrea unless you upgrade the optics which pretty much = SLR.
if you dont want to spend the 800 or so on the rebel xt, i have the original rebel and it works great, 6.3 mp is fine for making most pictures into wall sized posters anyway |

If you want small and excellent, take a look at the Canon Elph series. They may do everything you need to do. SLR is great, but size may be an issue.
Here's an excellent source for objective camera reviews where you can make mucho comparisons before spending those important $$$!: Search/Google: <stevesdigicams.com> |

Another camera review site has some great recommendations on various cameras of different types and price points: check out the Buyer's Guide at dcresource.com ( http://dcresource.com/buyersguide/ ).
You might like Canon's IS S3 or Panasonic's DMC-FZ30 camera. They're not dSLRs, but has a SLR-type ultra-zoom fixed lens that you can either zoom automatically or manually. Panasonic is coming out with the DMC-FZ50 pretty soon which would be able to take pictures in RAW format and be able to use the new SDHC (high capacity secure digital) memory cards. The Canon is much cheaper in terms of cost. |

S3 IS (what I recommended as well) is also great for taking superb macro shots. We currently use an S2 IS in our store. You won't be dissappointed with the Canon.
www.dpreview.com is what I recommend.
