so my si is going to be stolen
yeah so i just moved to my dorm today! very happy now that I'm out of the house. but anyways i was out side smoking a cig...and a guys like "hey is that ur civic Si?" and of course I'm like hell's ya. then he went on about how nice it was. then he brought up his friend's civic and was telling me about how kids from Hartford,ct come up and steel cars all the time mostly acura/Honda's. and his buddies civic got stolen. and told me i should leave my car at home cuz they will eventually come and steel my car.
idk what should i do? get lo-jack? get every freaking possible security systems out? let them steel it and make the school pay? or just leave it at home? i really don't want to leave my baby at my house cuz i have to commute from home to school and work. so mmm idk... |

just make sure you have good insurance and a list of ur mods with receipts so in the unfortunate case that it does get stolen, you can get your money...and a good alarm would be a good idea...maybe one of those silent ones with the key chain so you can go outside w/ ur bat/shotty or what eva and str8 f up some fools.

Drunk and puking in or on cars. This will happen in college. Leave the car at home. Buy a scooter.

lol i have the SAME exact situation. I also live around 45-60 mins away depending on traffic, and the school is nice and everything, its just that its RIGHT next to a very ghetto place, and ppl steal cars on campus all the time. so im still deciding what to do
options 1. get every single security shit for my car, including the one that pages you if your car alarm is on, so that i can run out there with my bat. 2. just sit there and hope they wont steal 3. commute. im going to cal poly pomona, in southern cali |

Just put snakes in your car man.. Snakes you grew up and tamed. You'll definately not get your car stolen.
There's a Lojack out there that calls you if you don't have this special sensor 20 ft from the car and they immediately send cops to it in minutes. Just get something you can track it, get good insurance and just pray it won't get stolen. My cousin got his 94 civic stolen (bought it used for $5,000) and lossed everything, rims, sound system, suspension and brakes. Insurance paid him $5,000 for it. Just make sure you have things ready in case it does get stolen so you can just buy another SI. I would put snakes in there. Or Samuel L. Jackson. |

It's a shame, but you're asking for problems leaving your car on campus. Since you really need it for the weekend, why don't you get a beater for college and leave the Si at home? If they mess with it who cares, imagine the misery of finding your Si vandalized or worse yet missing?! The insurance company is going to screw you and if you try to replace it with another Si the long delivery wait is going to be another pain in the arse. Protect your baby, leave her safe at home!

I would get this for an alarm
http://www.nothingtoxic.com/media/11...g_Flame_Device It might also do better to get a 500 dollar beater to leave at school and have the Si at home |

Fhound, layered security can certainly help, but it won't prevent your car from being flat-bedded.
However, aside from flat-bedding, layering can act to deter theives up to a certain level and make them look for an easier mark. 1. Good 2-Way alarm (Compustar, Viper, Clifford, etc.) These can run into the $400-600 range (professionally) installed. Adding on a digital tilt sensor is a must. A back up battery/peizo horn are great and keep going even if the theif manages to cut power to the alarm brain. These can notify you on your LCD unit from 1/2 to 2 miles (depending on the unit purchased) away from your car. 2. Physical deterents (Pedal jack, Disklok) Many of the so-called phyical deterents can be bypassed with relative easy for a decent theif. The Club, the 'Unbreakable' Auto Lock, etc. have been easily defeated due to the manner of their construction, or the simple attachment methods. More complex deterent, such as the dual Pedal Jack and Disklok are a bit 'harder' to remove and can add precious minutes to the time it take the theif to steal your car. As with all physical deterents the theif WILL get around it, it is just a matter of (A) getting them to move on to something easier or (B) slowing them down (particularly a good thing if you have the pager alarm) 3. Vehicle Recovery/Tracking system (Lo-jack or GPS tracker) These options are not for everyone. Some folks just don't even want their car back once it has been violated. Both Lo-Jack and GPS tracking units have their drawbacks. Lo-Jack is geographically limited and may or may not even be supported in your area. GPS tracking modules are limited 'urban canyons', and tracking loss if moved out from under open sky. Some GPS modules, however, will provide a 'last known' location before tracking was lost. Basically, this last known location has led police right to theives chop shops or garages from the last 'ping' on the unit. Some GPS trackers allow you to actually track your vehicle 'live' on the web, and see where the theives are going with your car. Most GPS tracking plans as well as Lo-Jack's "Early Warning System" (an add-on to the basic lo-jack package) may be able to notify you if your vehicle is moved without you in operation. With the GPS you can set up what is known as 'geo fencing' that will alert you or the tracking or both if the car is moved beyond a pre-defined perimeter. With the lo-jack EWS you carry an RFID module with you. If the car is moved a certain distance without the RFID module being in proximity to the car, the EWS will notify lo-jack operators who will then contact you to see if your car has been stolen (or if you wife just took the spare key and drove off, heh). That way they can immediately notify police after your confirmation. Without EWS you have to actually 'see' that your car has been stolen then notify lo-jack to begin the tracking process. Needless to say, if you have been in the mall or dining establishment and the theives have a two+ hour headstart on you, you can see how 'geo fencing' or EWS would come in handy. GPS and lo-jack can be pricy. GPS usually has an equipment cost + montly fee (or a fee based on the number of montly 'pings' that you desire). Lojack has an equipment cost, but no monthly fee. I hope something in that long post was helpful.
