Would you live in....

Alaska?

Heres some quick facts...

Population: 600,000 (Approximate)
Day length (Anchorage): Can be 4 hours of day/night at worst
Some roads have no speed limits
^^And you can bet enforcement is spotty anyway
Automatic weapons are legal
Getting a concealed weapons permit is very easy (Pretty much just can't be a felon)
You can grow up to 25 Marijuana plants legally
You can bet traffic is no problem
Hunting or fishing anyone?

And the below pics speak for themselves...

Alaska isn't that cold! That's like all Americans thinking Canada is winter all year long.

Alaska is nice, but it's not for me. I'm already in a deserted place as it is, so, no more!

My unlce lived there for 2 years. It's a hard place to live, imagine not seeing daylight for months, then you get normal hours for few months, and then it's daylight all the time and you can't sleep right. Both him and his wife went through depression during the winter and insomnia during the summer, to the point where they had to be medically treated and have professional help. Needless to say, they where more than happy to come back to the 48.

Where did they live? Southern Alaska is'nt quite as severe with the daylight/dark issue...

True, true! Also, if your a resident you get the "Permanent Fund" . Basiacally, due to all the oil coming out of Alaska residents get a cut of the profit. About 1k a year...Not much, but hey it's free money!

I would only move there if I could live in Anchorage. I need city life or I will go insane and die. The wilderness is great but only for camping trips, vacations, and weekend drives.

Pretty .. But nothing you couldnt see in a postcard.. I had an op. to go work in Kauai hawaii building condos, but after hearing ppl from the mainland say its a great place to visit but not live ... Due to island craze ( as some ppl call it) from being on a place so small for so long they almost went crazy.. Anyways .. The point of this is make sure its what you want to do b4 you make any moves, Even visit there.. Paradise looks good in pics but is a different story when u live there

Lived cross country from my family before. I couldn't imagine living THAT far away. Although it does look beautiful and I love night time and cold weather. Maybe someday I'll look into moving there.

I would definately love it I love the cold, and I love the thought of skiing (spelling?) even being an option. My older cousin actually got a job doing maintenance and rescue in Antarctica. I just recently got some pics via e mail that he took and were taken of him. He makes the solitude sound wonderful.

Not sure, it was the airforce special ops survival area, probably a little more north than where you will be, but the problem is still there. I know people who go on ships up there, and they always ask for interior cabin even though they like the outside cabin where they can look out. But on the inside they can sleep.

Here's a recent article about life in Alaska.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2556930

I dunno, I don't think I'd be able to handle it if I was stuck in a location so isolated that availability of food becomes a major issue when the weather sucks and washes the only road to your town out..
