Survey for a class (homework, its short)
I am an education major and I have to do a project. One part of this project is to gather data by a survey. So, if you could please help me out and answer some or all of the questions that pertain to you I would appreciate it.
PARENTS: 1. What do you hope for your child to get out of his/her education? 2. Do you think education should be improved? 3. Do you think too much pressure is put on students to succeed? 4. Are your child's teachers good teachers? 5. If you could change anything about education what would it be? 6. Is education a priority to you? 7. Do you think teaching is an admirable job? 8. Would you want your child to grow up to be a teacher? 9. What do you think is the main importance of education? TEACHERS: 1. How did you reach your decision to become a teacher? 2. Did family or friends discourage your decision? 3. Do you regret your decision? 4. Do other people take teachers jobs seriously? 5. Do teachers get enough support from their student’s parents? 6. What are some of the major problems you face in your profession? 7. What do you do to compensate for these problems? 8. What teaching styles do you find to be the most beneficial? 9. What do you think in the main importance of education? Thank you. Also, if you happen to have a teacher sitting next to you when you read this if you could get them to fill out a question or two I would really appreciate it. |

1. Have the basic understandings of all topics such as english, math, history, writing and science. 2. Yes. 3. No, not near enough. Kids need to know the value of making deadlines and hard work. 4. N/A 5. The Teachers need to involve the Parents more into their child's education. Parents seem to be handing their children off and expecting the School's to do everything for them. Parents need to be aware of what their children are learning, and if their child is falling behind, they need to take the extra time with them at home so they can be caught up. It's not fair to the rest of the class when the struggling students take up classroom time learning things that could have easily been taught at home. 6. Very much so. 7. Yes. 8. If it was my daughter yes. My son, no. Just because I want my sons making more money than that. 9. To supplement help for Parents to raise their children to be contributers to society. |

Would you want your child to grow up to be a teacher? 9. What do you think is the main importance of education? im a student in highschool so im also not sure if this counts but.... here is what i have to say 1. I hope for my self that i am prepared for the real world and college, i want to know basic skills plus skills i need to become an engineer. 2. i acutally think, im my town of 40k, suburb of chicago, that education is fine, but then again my highschool is a little better off than others in my area. 3. No, there is not too much pressure from the actual school, my parents pressure me alot more, always worrying about my grades 4. Almost all of my teachers are good, my algebra teacher doesnt seem to be able to teach, and thats not just my opinion, its a general 100% concensus on all that have or had him that he is just not any good, so we help each other. And My engineering teacher seems like he is better fit to teach gym. and my marketing teacher complains about how bad her life is everyday. otherthan that, PERFECT. some are annoying, some are mean, but still good teachers in the teaching aspect, they teach us, we learn, done deal. 5. Im not sure, i hate getting up to go to school, but i DO cherrish it, not the actual school, but there are so many moments in school that i will remeber for long times, so much funny things and awsome things i experience with my friends in school. its a good experience, i hate it and love it at the same time. 6.yes, education is a priority, but unlike my parents who want me to be a nerd and only worry about my grades. I however, dont, i like enjoying my childhood thankyou. 7.Yes, sometimes when im in the classes where i have good teachers, i think its a great job that i think about doing, not seriously though. 8. Im still in highschool, so ill do it from my point of view, they hardly get respect, bad pay, and have to put in long and hard hours. I would not do it, even though it does seem to pay off at times. 9. just making us a better educated public, country, and species as a whole. theres a reason China and India have been gaining on us, we need to make sure we put more weight on education to stay ahead. |

PARENTS:
1. What do you hope for your child to get out of his/her education? That he will one day understand the value of another person's point of view 2. Do you think education should be improved?greatly so. 3. Do you think too much pressure is put on students to succeed? No, The U.S. has become a failure in the area of education. We are years behind other countries and it still seems education is a 3rd or 4th priority to America 4. Are your child's teachers good teachers? Don't know yet, he's only 3 months lol 5. If you could change anything about education what would it be? The lack of creativity, Once you close a child's mind it's almost impossible to open it up to the world again. 6. Is education a priority to you? Yes. 7. Do you think teaching is an admirable job? Yes, for some 8. Would you want your child to grow up to be a teacher? Only if it makes him happy. 9. What do you think is the main importance of education? To expand one's mind, allowing them to see and enjoy more of this world than they would know without. |

Not a parent yet, but will talk about my little bro i guess
PARENTS: 1. What do you hope for your child to get out of his/her education? Better concepts in life and what it presents in all aspects, math, English, etc. 2. Do you think education should be improved? In my state yes, alot of high schools don't offer enough corses, in my area atleast. 3. Do you think too much pressure is put on students to succeed? In my opinion not enough is actually put on students, but i would think its more of the parent's job to apply the pressure about how important school is. 4. Are your child's teachers good teachers? Many of them are good, its just the curriculum isnt that great. 5. If you could change anything about education what would it be? Curriculum changes. 6. Is education a priority to you? Pretty important 7. Do you think teaching is an admirable job? Hell-Yea, except the teachers that dont do squat. 8. Would you want your child to grow up to be a teacher? Depends on if the child wants to. 9. What do you think is the main importance of education? To challenge minds to think differently rather than having a mental set about everything. |

my fiance is a teacher so here is her answers typed by me but in here voice. she is NY ceretified for grades 1-6, has taught pre-K as a permanent sub, and currently teaches 4th.
TEACHERS: 1. How did you reach your decision to become a teacher? I didn't, I just always wanted to be one. I did community events like summer camp and babysitting to make sure I would like working with kids. 2. Did family or friends discourage your decision? No, but they did ask me to make sure i wanted this and let me know it wasn't gonna be a piece of cake. My dad is a former teacher and now works as one of the high up people for the teacher's center of our district. He is a teacher center coordinator. 3. Do you regret your decision? No. (she does say jokingly that she wishes that she had a waitress job to make life easier, since she is marring a Marine lol) 4. Do other people take teachers jobs seriously? No. They think it is easy and don't realize how much work we must bring home. 5. Do teachers get enough support from their student’s parents? Hell no. 6. What are some of the major problems you face in your profession? State and district testing. Parents are not involved in a students education and don't discipline them enough, then look at me like its my fault. 7. What do you do to compensate for these problems? I try to discipline the children within the class room and help them, but without parent involvement there is little I can do. 8. What teaching styles do you find to be the most beneficial? Hands on and direct instruction. I don't really like group work. It works with some and not with others. I depends on the kids. 9. What do you think in (i think you ment is) the main importance of education? Education is important to excel in life. It's needed to get a job and know about the world that is around you. me personally i think the school system is lacking a little due to two things; lack of disciplined children and lack of funds. The funds are just small compared to what they should be so that teachers can do more within the schools. Not to mention, teachers are not nearly payed what they are worth. Of course I feel that military and certain divisions of cops don't get payed enough. The lack of discipline in schools is from our society as a whole. Society has blown child abuse way out of proportion some times. You can't even really spank your child anymore. I hear stories from my fiance of how some students behave in school and i'm shocked. These are 4th graders we are talking about and the stuff they say/do I would not have even thought of doing to my teachers when I was in 8th grade. Parents need to whoop their child's behind every now and then. I tell you what, my parents were very involved with my teachers (which is the parents responsibility not the teachers to make sure that parents are involved). If I acted up there was a phone call that would come in later that night or an e-mail (as I got into high school) waiting for my parents to read. I would get spanked (or as i got older grounded back to the stone age and put in isolation) and I would not act up again. I wouldn't at least do what I did for a while anyways. Sometimes children just need one or two pats on the bottom to rember what they did wrong and why they shouldn't do it again. |
