creatine
ok so the other thread about protein supplements got me curious again about creatine, first off I know a few things about weightlifting but my problem is I typically can't stay consistent with working out, lately I have but only with running. When I do lift I typical don't gain muscle very easily and I'm looking for something to help speed up the process since I am pretty weak. So I have heard nothing but good things about creatine but I don't think I trust the sources does anyone have experience with it? Is it worth it? Or would you suggest something else?
Thanks in advance |

If you are not working out on a regular basis then you should not take any supplements at all because all you will gain is water weight and fat. I'm thinking you don't gain muscles easily because you are not consistent with your workout. Nothing will help speed up the process if you do not take the time to exercise.
I've heard bad things to just about any supplement because it just bulks you up fast... once you stop working out, all that muscle mass will turn to fat. You can try Whey Protein if you really want. It's not as dramatic as some other stuff. |

I used to take it a long time ago it didn't really do anything for me and i just got sick of the taste. I remember there was a week after i had been taking it for a while when I did feel stronger and I could lift more but I had to stop taking it just because I couldn't stand the taste...hmmm maybe they have new flavors

you've already realized the main problem, and thats ur inconsistency. It also depends what your going for, the more cardio you do, the less bulky your going to get. Note, that doesnt mean you lose strength, just size with the more cardio you do. If your aiming towards developing size and strength, i would emphasize more of your workouts towards weightlifting every other day. I dont recommend any type of supplements at all other than maybe a protein shake. The key to losing weight or getting/staying in shape is consistency and commitment of excercise and proper diet. Your not going to lose 50 lbs. in a week similarly to how you didnt gain 50 lbs in a week. your not going to be able to double the weight your doing now in a week whether ur taking supplements or not. Its something that demands alot of hard work and commitment. I know it doesnt really answer your question, just thought id throw another more natural solution. Good Luck

^basically I'm trying to take off some weight and get back to the running I used to do back in the day. Since highschool ended for me I went from about 170 to 205 as of about a month ago, since then I have taken off a lot of water weight from eating really well and exercising mainly running. I'm know around 178 and I'm now running between 20-26 miles a week. I don't necessarily want to get huge I just want to get very toned and gain more muscle mass. I understand that when it comes to gaining muscle the main thing is to stick to it and never bend and I'm really working on that since I love working out again finally. So ya I'm just looking for that extra little help, without hurting my body. Thanks everyone for your advice!
p.s. I just lifted a little and what not and drank some gnc whey protein that I had from a little while ago..man that stuff is gross good thing I was thirsty or else I couldn't have finished it

If you take creatine make sure you drink enough water. I know three people out of 20+ who receive ill side effects. Mainly kidneys stones but there is nothing to say they didn't have them prior to creatine. I've never had an issue but i also drink up to a gallon of water a day.
A lot of people claim that "loading" is required but i personally think it's a waste. If you've never taken it before and you do load, you might find yourself shitting everywhere because your stomach will not be use to it. I would suggest taking one serving after lunch and the other 30mins before work out. Also cut back to half on days you do not work out on. Every 8-10 weeks cycle off for about 1-2weeks. And please don't take creatine if your not working out. No good! Stick to a schedule. Last edited by RageOn; 09-03-2008 at 07:35 AM. |

when i got back from basic training i worked out 5 days a week. i took creatine before i worked out (the powder kind). in 3 months i was double the size i was from when i started out. but i had to go to iraq and spent a year there without working out. i stayed the size i was, and maybe lost it a lil, but it was because obviously i was so active. butt now since im back, i lost it all. im back to the sixe i was before basic.... it works, just follow the dirctions.
