Unknown Rock-N-Roll Bands/Music

I grew up around rock-n-roll with my dad listening to Zeppelin, Floyd, Aerosmith, etc. Therefore, I've always liked rock music. Unfortunately, the rock music of today is not the same. Most of it is screaming, yelling, can't understand the words, heavy distortion (Slipknot, Coal Chamber, etc.). Or it's cheesy, pop-rock (Fall Out Boy, Alien Ant Farm, etc.) So I'd like to know from you guys if you have a favorite rock band that is NOT WELL KNOWN that you enjoy listening to. I'm always on the search for good rock music and would like to find some other artists besides the Nicklebacks, AC/DCs, Korns, etc. Here's a few of my favorites:

Brand New Sin

Pimpadelic

Black Stone Cherry

Seemless

The Sword

Maybe try "Montrose" , mid 70s early Sammy Hagar .

Have heard Montrose, good find. Also East West and Rainbow are good from that era.

I agree that all of these are good bands, but I asked for unknown/obscure bands that most people have not heard of. All of these are very well known.

haha... I had no idea that pimpadelic had made it that far out of texas, pretty cool. Anyways, if you're a pimpadelic fan you should really check out a few groups.
kottonmouth kings
Judge D
Daddy X
Kingspade

I also like Too Rude
Sublime & Blind Melon - well known but still good for mentioning
I love Burden Brothers
Portishead
The Ziggens
Snot
Skunk Anansie
ohhhhhhh.. Plastic Tongue, they used to play with pimpadelic from time to time and they were reallly talented.

I guess that's enough for now. If you want anymore just let me know

Now that's what I'm looking for! I used to live in Houston, so I've seen a TON of Pimpadelic shows. Of course, I'm probably the only person this north that has a CD of theirs. Just heard Snot today on XM, I'll check out the other.

BLU - sounds good on the Institute CD, always looking for new stuff.

Ahhh.. The houston factor makes a little more since with you being a pimpadelic fan. I actually used to run into the band all the time at parties here in fort worth, real a-holes those guys are. I would seriously say you should try to come up with a plastic tongue cd.. the best one is critics. I would say if you have a p2p service it would be your best bet.

As far as snot is concerned - they are definately an extremely talented band but it's an acquired taste for most. The catch with them is they do have the screaming factor, but it's well put in with the song. The history of that band is tragic... To sum it up the lead singer was killed by a drunk driver on the way to his 1st day of recording their second cd.
Just a little background, not to thread jack.. feel free to ignore.

Check out Dream Theater, my favorite band. Far and away the best progressive metal has to offer. All members are superb musicians.

Firmhonda - will check out that Plastic Tongue. I have Ares at home, so we'll give it a shot there

Not really into prog. rock. I like Pink Floyd and a little Alan Parsons, but couldn't get into Dream Theater or Queensryche or ELO.
