Markstudy, have you ever owned a pit bull? Could you describe your experiences with Pit Bulls to me? I don't believe it's fair to say having a pit bull is akin to having a firearm, but not say the same applies to all dogs (larger ones especially, as they are physically capable of more damage).

Where did you get that picture? It seems to be fairly biased against the particular breed in question... the big nasty "pit bull" skull is presented in a more menacing manner... it's turned more sideways than any of the other examples... I actually don't really see much difference between the "pet dog" and "pit bull" skull.. besides, why compare a dog to a tiger? The canines on the "pit bull" and "pet dog" are nearly identical. The nose is in the same place... domestic dogs and big wild cats have so little in common anyways, why even compare them? ... this comparison doesn't seem to be presented fairly is all I'm saying.

How is it that "pit bulls" don't see a line between humans and animals? It seems this statement implies that this breed is unable to distinguish between a dog and a human. I'm pretty sure my dog knows the difference, he doesn't sniff every new person's ass when they come to the door, but he'll certainly do that with another dog. Any dog will try to establish itself in the family pack and will occasionally test it's boundaries after it already knows it's place, and it's irresponsible to leave any young child with any dog unsupervised for any period of time, regardless of breed.

The only dog that's even bitten me was a bischon frise.

Word! I don't even leave my Golden alone with my 8 month old neice for more that half a second (even though he could care less about her--he doesn't even aknowledge her). It's just the best policy not to leave any dog, especially a large dog alone with a small child...

It is kind of funny. I had some neighbors who, well, weren't the most responsible parents. They got a black lab named "Ace" about the same time they had a new baby girl. That dog would follow her around everywhere. Sometimes she would come to our house and Ace would either sit by the door or sit by the window of the room she was in untill she left. When she wandered all about their yard and some parts of the neighborhood when she was a bit older ole Ace would be right by her side. It was really something. One time she was in the middle of the street and a car was coming, I happened to be there. Ace ran into the street and toward the car. The driver saw the dog and hit the brakes. Disaster avoided.

Great dog, not so great parents.
