So i got into a accident...Not in the Si though.
This was last night..
Not in the Si i was driving my dads truck..Here's the story: It was weird..the light turned green, and i was slowing down cause i was coming up to the stoped cars. The woman's brake lights went out, and i still was slowing down, then she slammed on her breaks and i slammed on mine more..Thus me hitting her. She then, hit the car in front of her, and the other girl, taped the car in front..The 2 girls where sisters. Doesn't look like frame damage. Just the radiator got punctured, and some bumper dmg. I was going about 30ish. Now would it be my fault for the other cars? cause from the looks of it, the car infront of me already hit the car befor i even hit her...cause she slamed on the breaks.. |

it's your fault bud, even if she was driving like an idiot, it's still your responsibility to retian a proper following distance and to react accordingly...
now if you are saying that there were 4 cars, and the first two in line at the light were just involved in a fender bender which caused traffic to stop abruptly, then that may relieve some guilt off you, but from your story i'm not so sure. if you were in a truck at the back, it is most plausible that your large vehicle caused a domino like effect, pushing each respective car forward.. this could also explain why there was such little damage. good luck! |

The driving rule of thumb, which isn't always fair, says that the person who is behind the person who slams on the brakes is the one at fault.
Sometimes its intentional (people slamming on their brakes if you're following too close) and sometimes it's not (someone slamming on their brakes to avoid running a yellow, which is ticketable in Michigan, not sure if in Minnesota).

Sorry, bro, but everyone here is right. You're going to end up being at fault to some extent. Even if the lady infront of you hit the car in front of her first, then it's both of you at fault. Insurance and traffic laws suck. But at least you're in Illinois and not Jersey where everything is "no fault" and insurance is sky high.

as far as I know you're at fault. the only time I ever hit someone was in a parking lot and I hit them from behind. But they were going in reverse and we didn't see each other. Ins. co. told my 51% her fault for being in reverse, 49% mine, so essentially I eeked out a win, but barely. In your situation, I think there's little chance you'll put out a win, but good luck regardless. |

Michigan also has no fault, which is awful.
