GTA IV troubles (PS3)

I'm now on my 2nd copy of GTA IV and I still can't get past the part where it says "STARTING A NEW GAME..."

I have a 40 GB PS3 I just bought in December 30th of 2007 and the game worked fine last night when I bought it after work, I played for a few hours then powered off the system, and this morning I can't get past the damn loading screen, I uninstalled the game and deleted the save game files and reinstalled the game from scratch and the same thing is happening...

mines played fine the first few days and now sometimes it gets stuck on the "now loading" screen what i do is turn the system off then turn it back on and it usually works after that.

I've tried that and it still don't load, the PS3 plays GT5 prologue just fine.

Ya I'm having problems too, although a bit different. Sometimes it seems to hang at the black loading screen (with the animated text in the bottom right). I've had good luck with resets though. I hit the PS button and select quit game, then the PS3 resets itself after a little beep, and usually loads correctly after that. Not always though.

its not the disc, its the game itself not working on some systems, XBOX and PS3, and everyone, including rockstar is baffled. try this:

today i had trouble with the now loading. i tried many resets to no avail. i deleted JUST the game save. and it worked. but somehow i was not at the begining i was only 2-3 missions back. actually i was at my latest manual save.

so i dont know if the latest manual saves are stored different than the autosaves but somehow i still had a save.

needless to say, im turning off autosave and just gonna use manual.

well i did one more mission, and it froze right after the mission. now its on starting a new game instead of loading the previous one. and its not working either. 20+ % gone.

not to mention, i still dont know if the freezing is gone.

im hearing from another forum, that turning off the internet connection will solve the problems. basically, avoid multiplayer untill Rockstar issues a patch.

ive just tried it, and mine is working again, with my original save reloaded from the flash drive with Internet Disabled.

i tried this today, i logged out of the psn network started up gta 4 and it loaded up just fine.
