Yup the 360 definitely had quality problems with the earlier versions. I've heard of many people going through 3-4 before getting one that works... but the percentage of people who have had the problem is usually inflated on the net. Supposedly the newest version eliminates the ring red ring of death issue.
The only current advantage the PS3 has in my eyes is the BD player. But I already got a stand alone player for free so I could care less. |

Oh, and Wii is a bad-ass system, don't hate. I think this might go to the heart of the problem. I find that real PS3 guys will be more likely to be a fan of or at least play the Wii than 360 guys who are more often than not the ones saying Wii is "for 12 year olds." The games are actually very fun, and it's almost relaxing to play them. All those classic titles beat the shit out of either the 360's or PS3's classic offerings. And the system is cheap. I think the virtual console is really what makes it though honestly. And I think that there is a correlation between having love for the PS3 and appreciating the Wii. In my observations I've found that PS3 fan boy's tend to have grown up gaming (have had 6+ systems, gaming has been an important part of their lives, etc.) while 360 fan boy's tend to have only gotten into gaming w/ the Xbox due to Halo, or Madden, or w/e....more casual gamers, or at least they started that way. For us lifetime gamers, we love the PS3, we can appreciate the Wii. We know the PS3's faults, but we know it's strengths also...and we have faith in it and in Sony. Now I know this isn't always the case and some of you are dying to post "OMGzors I love 360 and I was playing FF7 when I was in the womb before it came out!11!" I understand. But this is what I have observed. I have several reason why I don't like the Xbox. Namely, 5 reasons I don't like Microsoft lol. But seriously I try to support MS as little as possible. One (among many) is I strongly disapprove of them brute forcing their way into a space they know nothing about (gaming) because they know they have more capital than anyone else and they can keep spending till they get their way. I'm not naive, I know every company is out there for the almighty $, or yen as it may be, but a real love and devotion to "gaming," the industry and the lifestyle, is what I want to see out of a platform maker. Sony has that. MS does not, or at least they did not. MS's current formula: Let's allocate- $2 billion for marketing + $2 billion in payoffs for exclusive content/games and simultaneous release dates= 360 domination. The console war is not as it once was. No longer is it about specs as much. Nor is it about which console maker fosters better game design. It's about how do we get potentials to play OUR games. Oh yeah and the Xbox controller sucks. Dualshock FTW. ![]() Last edited by spook4thecia; 05-09-2008 at 09:02 AM. |

yea i dont know what you are talking about buddy, the wii is a cool console but nintendo does have a lot of kid games, and unless you have gone door to door all across america how the hell would you know what guys with 360s play or prefer, i bought the elite last year and i hate halo, i rarely play madden, which by the way is out for ps3 also, i only play shooters and racing games, so considering most of the games i have have an m on it i wouldnt call it casual. Second you reasons as to why you dont like xbox is great and all but i dont really think any1 gives a shit about those things or takes them into account when buying a system, i go by graphics, price, and games. And finally the controller is a personal preference thing, the xbox controller is a perfect fit to your hand, the triggers are placed perfect along with the joysticks not to mention the cool force feedback, although the ps3 controller is extremely light and bluetooth to me its very akward, i feel like i have to stretch out my hand to control the joysticks which by the way are horrible, and the fact that they are using the same controller since forever is a joke, that was aways one reason as to why i never bought ps2, there is no way you keep your fingers close to every button all at one time, especially those front top 2 on each side, but if ur a ps2 and ps3 fanboy youll argue this to the death and thats fine but 9 outa 10 people i ask prefer the xbox controller its a perfect fit to your hand

That's why I didn't state my observations as fact. I'm pretty sure I said observations and what I have observed. Did I mention these are my observations? And the controller bit was a joke "buddy," kind of poking fun at my lengthy, serious-ish post. No need to get defensive. I actually do think the PS controller is better, though...wait..let me state this clearly..IMO. But that opinion is widely considered to be correct as countless pundits have claimed the PS controller the greatest of all time, short of a mouse and keyboard. Not to mention the barrage of criticism about Xbox controllers and my own experience with my old Xbox "big" controller (I could only use the smaller, and only then it was it's layout tolerable). You are entitled to your opinion as am I and everyone else. The Xbox has come a long way. The part about MS not really being into gaming is slowly fading. It was was quite apparent. The 360 is a good system, but I would trust Sony to deliver me a better experience in the long run because this is what SCE does, has done, and will be doing. |

I too have the 60Gb PS3 (backward compatible w/PS2 & 1, media card reader, & wireless). It's very quiet and I've watched Blu Ray movies back to back and it'll get warm but never hot. The only problems are minor -dust magnet, looks lame vertical, shaped like a old Bang Olufsen stereo, no PS2 controller port (for old steering wheel), can't stand chrome on cars or video games, warranty is kinda short.
From what I've noticed 360/PS3 games are just ports from the 360 so they don't take full advantage of the PS3 graphics (like having a Si but every road you're on has a 30 mph limit and a cop on every corner). The best part of the PS3 is that it's the cheapest Blu Ray player but G4 said that Microsoft is pursuing a Blu Ray add on to replace the HD-DVD from a couple of months ago. I suppose the core 360 with Blu Ray would be the cheapest BD player. |

there is no way the playstation controller is the greatest of all time, it might be the oldest but honestly id rather use a sega genesis controller over it, the original xbox controller was definetly a beast but the 360 is way smaller and every button is placed in the perfect position, i tried playing cod4 on ps3 and it wasnt as fun for me cuz the control setup was whack, and as far as what i said bout how people prefer the 360 controller im going off everyone1 i know who plays video games and every1 i talk to, i also agree that id trust sony over microsoft also and they deliver quality products, but as of right now the ps3 isnt really pulling ahead by any means, people are having a hard time developing games and magazines went as far as to say that sony is just relying on their name to sell consoles which is why they didnt even change the controller, a move that was widely criticized all over

the controller just doesnt fit your hand like the 360 one does, and really thats the only arguement i hear from ps3 owners, oh well we have a blue ray player so yea, it doesnt matter if you are developing a new system then it better have new shit, and there was no reason for the system to be so damn expensive in the first place, exactly why they cut prices back, yea it has a blue ray player and the games are in that format as well, but obv. they havent done shit with it cuz its taking forever to make games, its almost like they just figured cuz it has a blueray player it would outsell when in reality they had to drop prices just to compete with the 360, and yet they still cant cuz there are no games out for it, yea medal gear and turismo are coming but what else is there, final fantasy?? big deal

You guys who are arguing about which controller is better are stupid. Both controllers are great, I like the xbox and ps controllers, the only reason I prefer the PS controller is because I have one. Same thing with you 360 guys, the only reason you say the 360 controller is better and more natural is because you have one and are used to the button configurations. Both controllers are great, it all comes down which one you are more used to.

I like certain aspects of both controllers. I have larger hands, so 360 feels a bit more natural. At the same time, I've been using the DualShock since high school, so I'm very used to it. I prefer the button and stick feel of the DS3. I like the stick locations better on the 360. I like the 360 trigger style a little better than DS3, but don't like how far the bumpers are from the triggers, as opposed to DS3 R1 and R2 being very close together. I also like the feeling of resistance given by R2 and L2 vs. the 360 triggers.
If I were new to gaming I think I would feel intimidated by the design of the 360 controller vs. the DS3. If I were a moderate gamer I would probably prefer the more natural hand positioning of the 360. But having started on the NES controller, I can handle anything. |

The 360 guys said the 360 controller was better and the PS3 guys said the PS3 controller was better, just a biased debate. I don't mind If people debate these things, it's just that when people start taking an obviously biased stance it gets nowhere. I'm sure that the OP wanted an unbiased and honest opinion when he asked which one was better, not just a bunch of people saying that their system rules in every possible way and everything else is a piece of s**t. |

well unfortunatly for the op most people have either 360 or ps3 so ur gonna get a biased opinion, i think both systems are great but just dont understand why people shoot down 360 so much and make it out to be a joke when its a great system and fun as hell to play
