Picture this: left hand turn, I have inner and AI has outer, we're side by side. I understeer slightly and bump the AI, my throttle is cut for 5 seconds for a penalty... pretty harsh IMO. I like Forza 2s crash physics better... if you slightly damage your front bumper, your top speed is hugely compromised. This really forces me to drive defensively. Much more than a time penalty at least... |

anyone who says damage isnt important because of the AI.....i dont know what to say to you.
GTs lack of damage and crap AI actually encourages you to use the AI cars for as turning aide, instead of using proper overtaking methods. you brake late and get on the inside. then as you under steer you rub against their cars, and the crappy collision models just keeps your car on the line and pushes them wide. its terrible. the AI has to be fixed, no two ways about it. and when it is fixed, damage is the next logical step. the penalty system is a piece of garbage. i dont even want to get into that. |

Umm, probably not - its not the regular oval track with the slight bulge on one side ( I think that's what Daytona looks like ). This might be a slightly morphed version of it - its got long curves but it has a few slower turns as well - I'm at work now but I'll see what its called when I get home and reply.

Especially when they land, unrealistically in a Del Sol, ass-first. And that's another thing...the car physics are fairly wonky in rallies I find. Considering that even in GT4, one of my best cars to use in the dirt tracks is a Del Sol. It was pretty much *THE BEST* in GT3 A-spec.I'm all for simulated driving, but crash damage is something I'd turn off. I would penalize for crash damage with worse handling and top speed, but I can't stand to see a F430 damaged. Even make me pay for repairs at the end of the race, that's fine. Just don't let me see it.

The lack of damage modeling is ridiculous and the fact I have to pay $40 for a glorified half-cooked demo is even worse. I've heard the final product may have damage modeling but it's not confirmed (WTF?).
From what I've seen so far Forza2 is a superior product and at $20 it's a better value. |

This release is exactly what someone posted earlier, it is something they put togather to shut everyone up. Making a game is hard enough, let alone making one for the PS3. They want to make a realistic driving experience and yes crash damage is coming in the full release. It takes one guy 6 months from start to finnish to build 1 car. The AI is fairly good, it will overtake you and vice versa. The penality is something that looks like it was slapped togather, I personally think that they should make you give back the position rather then slowing you way down.
PS, I have one race left on the "S" mode. of course the 700 point race. Using the modded s 2000. But can only get to 9th place. What did everyone else use on this track. and what happens after you finnish the s class |

On another note, I think that GT's designers are either getting lazy or uncreative. GT3 was revolutionary, GT4 was still good but it didn't really change very much, it's only real changes were wings (oohh, I can rice out my NSX!), B-spec (now I don't even have to drive) and nitrous (oohh, naws!), it was more like GT3 2004 edition. GT5 just seems like yet another minor evolution. There are very few new features, in car view (big deal) and maybe, possibly crash damage (about time). One of the main things that shows a complete lack of creativity and lack of effort on the designers part is the complete lack of visual customization (same size rims and gaudy wings don't count). While it may not matter to some, I think it makes GT5 look out dated even before it's launch. Extensive visual customization has been commonplace on all "real car" style driving games for years. I mean come on, I'm not just talking about body kits, even things like upgraded brakes and exhausts don't show up on your car (it always shows factory brakes and exhausts, no matter what upgrades you have). You also can't add functional upgrades such as splitters an diffusers, and how hard would it be to allow you to paint your car in something other than a factory color. The reason GT's developers say they can't do visual upgrades because then they wouldn't be able to model the cars to their standards. Forza and NFS pro street both offer both extensive visual upgrades and impressive photo realistic modeling, how come GT5 only offers one? Even though I am a big GT fan I hope that GT5 flops, I think that the lack of progress with the franchise is disappointing and I think the developers have become uncreative. If GT5 is a flop then maybe GT6 would be much more innovative and impressive. End rant. |
