I have had it twice. I am now on my third xbox. It sucks.

I have friend that just got the RROD today. I'm definitely going to tell him about the towel trick.

I get them bishes (RROD) everytime I turn on my 360.....I pull the harddrive and all the cords, put it all back in and presto! It is really getting annoying.

Yours is on it's way out man. My fourth box was doing the same thing up until three weeks ago when it just stopped working.

I just got mine back from Microsoft today. Let's see how long it lasts this time.

you guys should demand a new one. i read on couple of forums that there's an updated version with a falcon chipset or something that is quieter and produces less heat than the previous issue which means less likely to RROD.

^^I have demanded a new one.
1. they don't take too kindly to demands.
2. their stance is that it's a warranty issue. They fix the warranty issue and will continue to do so until the warranty is out. Sucks, but that's the way they're choosing to operate.

Thankfully it's only happened to me once. The timing was horrible, my system was out over last Christmas and guess what I got from wife: 360 games.

After not playing my XBOX 360 for a week, I decided to turn it on and play a little bit of Call of Duty 4. But apparently, these things get lonely and punish you by giving you the Red Lights of Death when you don't pay attention to them for a week.

This is my first time and I'm annoyed. Luckily, I bought a replacement contract at Circuit City so I'm going to stop by and get it replaced. My only dilemma is renewing it on the new console or just using Microsoft' warranty. However, I think I'll just take the Microsoft warranty even if it forces me to wait 3-4 weeks since I refuse to spend $100 for another Circuit City one.

Lastly, Microsoft doesn't know the meaning of quality. I dislike them as a company so much!

Well, Circuit City didn't replace my console. They told me that I paid $100 for a warranty for them to send it out for repair. Why would I pay $100 for this. Granted, the brochure says 'Repair or Replacement' but still. Every person I've seen go to Circuit City always got their console tested in store. Well, after being annoyed with them, they're refunding me my $100 back because it's ridiculous. I was told by a manager that their policy changed as of January and all new and remaining contracts would be subject to this change. I argued it for about 20 minutes, but I was running late for work because of that crap.

By the way, when I bought the plan, I was told by a MANAGER that they would swap it out right in the store. I love the lies!

Sadly, I have to wait for Microsoft to send me a box. I guess it's time to play PS3. But it sucks because there isn't anything I'm interested in playing right now and won't be until MGS4 comes out. But at that time, I'll just be receiving my XBOX 360 back! Great...

Never get "in store" warranties. They're just third party insurance policies full of loopholes that they can use to deny your claim. They're even written in a way that makes it next to impossible to have a arbitration through a third party. Our family got screwed by one of those on a laptop replacement at CompUSA. When that place went out of business, I'd just go in their to laugh and talk out loud about how they all deserved losing their jobs for their shady business practices. Those bastards will lie through their teeth to sell you those policies because they are typically 100% profit due to their ability to deny claims unilaterally.

I never buy policies due to this. However, I've never had an issue with extended warranties on video game systems. And considering the failure rate of an XBOX 360, I couldn't not buy one. This is the first and last time I'll be dealing with their bullshit though. I'm lucky Circuit City is refunding me my money, but they make a killing in interest on it already.
