Shining Force!

Not sure what made me start this thread, but I wanted to hear everyone's opinions on this that know the series. I LOVED the SF series for years.....I have played SF1-3, SF on sega CD. I almost imported SF3 episodes 2-3 since only episode 1 came stateside. Now within the last few years SF has resurfaced on PS2. Problem is the game is 100% different. What gives? Are people tired of rpg/sim's? I didn't even buy the new gen SF because they are terrible IMO.

For those not familair with the series it started on Sega Genesis years ago, and has gameplay similar to Final Fantasy Tatics. It is a simulation rpg where you move around set maps within "grids", and level up your characters and promote them to new classes.

What do you all think about the series in the past and where it is now? I for one love sim rpg's and wish the market was still in high demand for them.

Didn't the SF series have the 1st person view on the Genesis? Or is that another RPG series? I hate RPGs like that -- too D&D for me.

I'm not big on the Tactics style stuff either (apart from FFTA, due to Viera Assassins) because I'm not smart nor tactical enough to think that far ahead.

no. It was just like FFTA as far as the view is concerned. You do really have to be a tatical fan to like that type of game though that is for sure. For some reason I love it.

Yes I loved SF. I never had a Genesis but my buddy did and we played the crap out of those games. In fact, every few years we still get together, load it up on his modded xbox, and play it all over again over the course of a weekend. That game is awesome. Musashi FTW!

i loved shining force on the genesis, i only played 1 and 2 though, i still have the games in the garage yeah that bush you search is i believe in the last town when you first enter it theres this bush with 2 dots on it, also you guys remember yougurt was like the crappiest character ever and he had this ring you can equip on another character and it would turn him into a yougurt looking fellow to.theres also the password you enter to rename all the characters anything you want, there was a samurai in part 1 that i never found after looking for him everywhere, anyone ever find him? i bought the new shining force game on the ps2 when it came out its crap, i like the old strategy rpg style better its like the new final fantasy 12 is crap i like the good ol turn base action of an rpg. and the first person view izzy was talking about that was shining in the darkness.

My favourite games were Shining Force 3: Episode 3 and Shining the Holy Arc for the Saturn. Those are classics, and I still like those games better than all the RPGs out now, except maybe for Lost Odyessy which I'm playing right now :)

^ i have found many of the newer RPG's to be lacking something the old ones used to have.....I mean sure the graphics are much improved but that doesn't make a great game IMO.
