Top 100 Video Games (Your Top 10)

This 2007 top 100 list from IGN fails... real bad!! Content it good but the order is way off IMO.

So lets make our own top 10.

Here is mine:

10) Wave Race (N64)
9) Need for Speed Underground (PS2)
8) God of War (PS2)
7) Halo (Xbox)
6) Super Mario 3 (NES)
5) The Legend of Zelda (NES)
4) Metal Gear Solid (PSX)
3) Golden Eye 007 (N64)
2) Grand Theft Auto 3 (PS2)
1) Finial Fantasy VII (PSX)

10-5 made my list because they are games that not only redefined many aspects of gaming and standards, but also for the large fun factor they had.

4-2 made the top four spots because they literally blew me away, and for previous reasons.

1 FF VII IMO does gets a "forever" status. I know some will state other FF were better or that it is overrated, but I would argue to the end that VII takes the win. The characters, music, freedom, story, battle system, villain are near perfection. And that's just the obvious pros the game; there are literally hundreds of details that make that game superior to anything else. I can play this game over and over and still enjoy it as much as the first time.

Nothing before NES made my list because although some games before NES were stables and great in their own right, they don't get a "forever" status in my book. If a game is better then its better. My first system was Atari 2600 and I have had all the (successful) systems since.

Close contenders:
Shenmue (DC)
Sonic (SG)
Final Fantasy XII (PS2)
Perfect Dark (N64)
Wolfenstein

What are your top 10??

Goldeneye is definately up there with FF7 and Super Mario bros, but why wave race. I would also include Zelda: The ocarina of time. It was groundbreaking for its time. Oh, and tetris as well.

I knew someone would call me out for wave race. But I think IGN did get something right with wave race. One of the first things people want to see when a new system comes out is how the water looks. I think wave race took a huge step forward in video games and water. Not to mention it was so much fun to play. It’s definitely “out there” for a top 10 list, but I had to include it because I had so much fun playing it. And no water racing game to date has surpassed it IMO. I can still remember the announcer saying "bulls eye" like it was just yesterday.

I was a big fan of socom 2 online. I started playing with the original until people started cheating. I became a big fan of socom 2 and pretty much only played crossroads as a sniper. I am a fan of the smaller maps and it pissed me off when they decided to like triple the size of the maps and add vehicles.

Probably because you werent that good at at. I probably broke like 15 controllers and like 20 headsets because of that game and some of the BS kills that happened but i still couldnt get my self away from it.

I am going to guess you were/are a Halo online fan because all the people who hated socom played halo and vice versa

I'm glad to see someone liking FF VIII. A lot of people hated on that game, but it's one of my favorite in the series. Halo is good but giving it the 1 or 2 spot it wrong. It might have been big but it def didn't "start" online gaming.

I'm surprised no one has listed kingdom heart yet...

Kingdom Hearts was a great game, I'll admit that. That could actually easily replace Super Mario World on my list, but I think I gave Square-Enix enough love. I have too many "favorites" though. Other games I wish I could put somewhere include: Loaded/Reloaded (PSX), Marvel vs. Capcom 2, God of War, The Lost Vikings (SNES), Contra (NES), Street Fighter Alpha 3 (ARC), Halo...

Glad to see someone else like FFVIII as well. Fans are few and far in between. The only bad part about the game is the Draw system -- but that just requires patience, or using Memory menus and switching the channel while constantly pressing "X".

...Batman (Genesis), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game (NES), Megaman III (NES), Crystalis (NES), Secret of Mana/Seiken Densetsu II (SNES), Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals (SNES), Pilotwings (SNES), Kid Icarus (NES), Super Metroid (SNES)...

Glad there's another Lost Vikings fan as well. Obscure games FTW!

I'm going to throw Star Fox 64 in the mix (maybe not a top 10 but it was great). I loved Star Fox for SNES too but no save point FTL
