playlists for music and pictures.
pick a background color
PSN has its own category apart from network.

the biggest thing is updates to remote play. you can turn on and off the PS3 from a PSP. you can also be anywhere on the netowork and liten to movies, pics or music thats on the PS3 HDD on the PS3.

This is HUGE step forward, but its not finished yet. right now Lair can be played via remote play, but the PSP lacks the buttons and extra joystick required to play the game.

anyone who did the update with an HDMI cable connection trying to play a ps2 game in full screen mode get some clipping (cuts off the left and right sides a bit)? only seems to happen for ps2 upscaling.

v2.10 is out.
1.Voice changing feature has been added to enable changing of your voice pitch during chat.
2.DivX and VC-1(WMV) have been added as codecs that can be played under [Video]
3.You can now select [Type 3] under [Bitmapping] in [Settings] > [Music settings]

awesome. yes it was always possible with linux, but this is just one easier step.

Sure, bud.

ALSO included in today's update, Blu-Ray Disc Profile 1.1 is now supported on the PS3.

The key feature in BD Profile 1.1 is the "Picture In Picture" function. For example, you have the BD movie playing and in the corner theres a box where they show video of whoever doing commentary, etc.

and ironically, the PS3 will eventually be able to play HD DVD via the XBOX 360 HD DVD. they already have linux drivers, and now they are working on a player for linux. lets also not forget that the early XBOX 360's without HDMI will be obsolete for HD DVD in a year or two.

$5/ month. the average life span of a console is 5 years. 60x$5 = $300. now take your $299 XBOX which has no wireless or HDD or HD-DVD and add another $300 and your looking at something thats more than the highest end PS3.

more features are added to PS3 everyday. Sony doesnt seem to think that this is useful (niether do i for that matter) but if enough people complain (and they have) im sure it will happen.

paying to play online is retarded imo, and the one of the main reasons i have not and will not purchase an xbox. PSN may be crappy compared to xbox live, but i just refuse to have to pay to play after purchasing the hardware + game + xbox live? no.
