xbox 360 broken
Anyone here had the "red ring problim"
Is it worth my time to send it to microsoft for repair, I want my hard drive to be saved. If i get a new 360 I don't have any of my scores or things i PAID bill gates for on xbox live, it's crap. |

i already had my xbox replaced after having it for like a year it crapped out on my when i got the hd-dvd drive. anyways...as stated...they'll send you a box to pack your console up and then ship back to them. All you send back is the console...no controllers, no power supply, no hard drive should be sent back to them. Got mine back in about a week. |

I got the 3 red rings last night. I asked about a warranty on the machine once it is repaired, and they told me it was 3 months. I'm debating on getting the 3 year warranty for around 100 bucks because if it breaks after the 3 month period it will be 100 bucks to fix it anyways, so this way, it can break as many times in the 3 year period and it will be fixed.
I'm still waiting on my box to be sent out, hopefully it only takes a week like the above poster. I don't know if I can go 6-8 weeks like they told me on the phone. |

I had the ring of death, so i turned everythign off and unplugged it all for 5 mins or so. My system has worked fine since then and its been a few weeks at least.
Also you may want to check online they have a few fixes you could try. The towel trick is the most famous and seems to work the best as well. Just google it trust me its worth a shot. A friend of mine did the towel trick and his system works great now. |

I've been through this process three times over the last 4 months. No BS.
You call them and they schedule a box (coffin) to be sent to your house. Once the box gets sent out (I've had to wait up to 2 days before the box even got sent) it takes 3-5 days for it to get to your house. 3-5 days for you to ship it back to them. 7-14 days for them to "repair" your 360 and another 3-5 days for shipping to get back to you. Best case - 16 days. Average for me was about 25 days. Even under "best case" circumstances you have to deal with UPS not delivering on weekends. |

i got the red ring like 2 days before Halo3 dropped. so I went to wal-mart and just exchanged it. I told them it was a gift and I only got like 2weeks ago and that it keeps freezing up and saying disk unreadable. So they switched it with NO questions asked.
I REALLY had my x-box around a year..hehehe http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/showt...ferrerid=20489 |

Happened to me and my friend, call microsoft and they'll send you a box and syou ship it back and you should get it in2-4 weeks fixed. You can try the towel trick. Wrap alot of towels around it and leave it on for 20 min. and off it and take the towels off...let it cool for 20min and it should work. Or you can buy a new one from walmart and switch the plastics so the cereal number is the same and return the old one with the new cereal number and get your money back lolz

your not to first, wont be the last, this has been talked about on threads before. takes about 2 weeks from date of calling it in...I called on a friday morning (ring on thursday) box on thursday, dad dropped it with UPS on monday, the next thursday new xbox...Ive been playing the hell out of halo 3 with it...im abusing this system hardcore.
I saw a kid stand in line at the post office to send off his xbox...in my head im going...it says send it back ups all over the place, its pre-paid...why the usps? But he was Asian, probably didn't speak much English. |

I've had my 360 for a long time (over a year) with no problems. I thought I was going to be one of the lucky ones.
Today it shut down and displayed the 3 red lights. I turned it off and back on and it worked the rest of the time I played it. What are your opinions. Should I trade it in for a new Elite unit while it is still working (before it stops for good)? Or should I wait and see if it stops working completely and then try to get Microsoft to replace it if it does (over a year old, don't have receipt anymore)? |

Just sent my xbox off to get the red rings fixed. Its pretty bad when i walked into the ups store and the guy working there just by looking at the box goes, sending in your 360? Im surprised mine lasted 2 years without a problem until last week. From what ive heard they just send you a new one.... Anyone know if they just send off a new one?
