i have both, and i enjoy both mainly for their system specific games... halo 3 / heavenly sword among others. i do notice differences in gaming but not to concerned when playd in HD.

I'd say go with the Xbox just because of the games that offered. Many of the exclusives the PS3 have are now going to multi platform because of how lackluster sales were for the PS3. Check out the exclusives for each system to see what you like.

Because honestly, even though the PS3 is supposed to be more powerful than the Xbox360. All the games that have come out on both systems have looked exactly the same and they actually run worse on the PS3 than the Xbox360. The power of the system should not even come into the equation in regards to deciding on the systems. Look at the games it offers, additional capabilities like blu-ray, hddvd, online capabilities, etc.

Like I said before, I don't understand why everyone thinks that the ps3 is leagues ahead of the 360 as far as hardware goes. The only thing that it has over the 360 is the ability to play HD movies out of the box. To get the full resolution capabilities you would have to get a 1080p TV which would be a HUGE chunk of change over the cost of a console that's price was already huge.

Yes, the game may look better on the ps3.. But are you buying a painting or a game? If it plays better on the 360 then this should be a no brainer in my eyes... It's a game console, not an art console. If people are saying that the gameplay of the 360 is way better then who cares about how realistic the peach fuzz on the arm of some random character looks in a game?

if you think that your gonna always get 720P resolution out of a XBOX360 your mistaken. the console has the ability to reder the 3D graphics at a lower resolution and then the 2D HUD and menus nice and sharp and output it. thts what happens alot of the time in XBOX 360 Games.

People continue to say that but then bash the PC for its expense (in comparison to a console) by bringing up $500 and $600 graphics cards when really a $100 graphics card is sufficient. why? because of graphics. i dont agree with it but you cant leave graphics out of the equation fairly. its always gonna be brought up.

i havent read this entire thread but actually, imo people seem to be saying that FPS games are the only area where the XBOX is strong in comparison to the PS3 in terms of gameplay. the PS3 owns it everywhere else and its not even in full stride yet. now if you really want good gameplay for FPS games, look no further than a PC. now according to you, you cant use the excuse that high end graphics cards make the PC more expensive. stick $60 worth of RAM and $100 worth of graphics card into any semi-recent PC and your set for GAMEPLAY.

now, if the PS3 is ahead of the XBOX so early in the game, imagine 2-3 years from now.. the PS2 came out an entire YEAR AND A HALF before the GC or XBOX and its outlived the both of them easily with WORSE HARDWARE. just imagine with BETTER HARDWARE.

Finally ill say that the PS2 took a while to get into full stride as well. do you remember NBA Live 2002 for PS2? just give the PS3 some time. all consoles are rip offs for atleast a year anyway.

Very few games period offer full 1080P, for both Xbox360 and PS3. That's something the game developers provide not from the actual console itself. Both system have the capabilities to provide higher resolution gaming but developers aren't catching up to it and many still release stuff in 720P even for the PS3, which I find very comical. Comparing multi console games released on both PS3 and Xbox360, you will see there is virtually no difference between the two.

Sony won the market when the PS2 came out because they had all the big exclusive games that no other system had, Gran Turismo, every Squaresoft title, Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto, etc. While Xbox and Gamecube didn't have these luxuries they had to rely on their first party products which are far and few. So Nintendo and Microsoft had a tough battle to fight with a system that was dominant in the previous generation and also got an early start on them in the current generation. The Dreamcast came out before the PS2, it offered better online play, a more powerful and reliable system. However what killed it was the lack of exclusive titles and the overcoming the hype of the PS2.

With this current generation game players had fallen for the hype of the PS3. But Sony itself killed that hype by first of pricing it out of most gamers price range as a result of bundling it with additional features gamers don't necessarily need. The Xbox360 wasn't cheap at $300 for the lower end model and $400 for the higher end model, but at the same time the difference between the two was features that a player can decide up on; wireless controller, microphone/headset, harddrive neither of which are required for gaming. With the PS3 they threw in a Blu-Ray dvd player which was cool but 99% of gamers could have cared less and would have opted to go without it if had saved them money. At $500 and $600 price range, it wasn't really a deal considering you were only paying for a 40GB difference in HD space neither of which affect your ability to play a game and unless you downloaded a ton of crap online you wouldn't never use any of it.

and i would say 99% is a bit exaggerated. besides, the games are on a blu-ray disc so it can hold all that data, so if the games are on blu-ray, might as well make it able to play blu-ray movies as well, right? I enjoy my high-def movies btw.

Soon there will be fault with this argument as well.. Well, maybe not the argument as much as the implication that the argument makes.

Bluray exists simply because of the massive amounts of information that can be stored on a disc, correct? Well, through refining the burning frequencies used to do multiple-layer burning on hd-dvd's they are getting very close to matching that amount of information. This would mean that games could be just as complex and the resolution could eventually be bumped up for the 360.. Which, btw, there is yet another new 360 in the works that is rumored to have the same cost as an elite but it will be able to play hd-dvd's straight out of the box. If this technology gets perfected in time I would guess that Microsoft would go ahead and bump up the resolution to 1080p instead of 1080i to make sure that it stayed ahead of the game.

The last part of that is pure speculation on my part though, I would guess since microsoft is a money-grubbing company that they would want to at least match the output of the ps3 to try and monopolize yet another market.

I was just saying that because Bubble Gum Jr. said they "threw in" a blu-ray player which most people could have gone without to save them some money. and...well...that didnt really make sense. it was nothing against what hddvd is doing with their capacity, its just that...without blu-ray, ps3 games wouldn't really exist...hope you get what im trying to say.
