I'm sorry but that comment is similar to what Sony said about the wii. And we see how that turned out.

-Extra $179 if you want it to play movies in HD

If you add up all the cost of 360 to be able to match what the PS3 can do out of the box you will end up spending way more on the 360..
I like how you the premium ps3 and the mid-grade 360. That's like comparing your si to a base model lancer.. So let's do a comparison between the ps3 and the 360 elite..

PS3 - 3.2GHz Cell Broadband Engine
Xbox 360 elite - 3.2GHz G5 with 3 dual-threaded cores
PS3 - 512K of L2 cache
Xbox 360 elite - 1MB of L2 cache
PS3 - 256MB of main memory plus 256MB of video memory
Xbox 360 elite - shares 512MB between the CPU and GPU PLUS 10MB of eDRAM specifically dedicated to the GPU
PS3 memory bandwidth = 25.6GB/s
Xbox 360 elite memory bandwidth = 22.4GB/s
__________________________________________
PS3 = 1/4
360 elite= 3/4
__________________________________________
PS3 - 60 gig HD
360 elite - 120 gig hd
Here's a straight quote:

Quote:
The PS3 has an HDMI port and supports 1080p. That comes in handy with our new Sony 46" 1080p LCD flat panel screen.
In the case of the Xbox 360 the best quality video output is component and maxes at 1080i. The Xbox 360 Elite, however, does include an HDMI port and supports 1080p.
PS3 - 7.1 & Dolby Digital, DTS, SACD and Dolby TrueHD
360 - 5.1 & Dolby Digtal and DTS
_____________________________________________
PS3 = 1.5/3
Xbox 360 elite = 1.5/3
_____________________________________________

ps3 = 2.5 out of 7
360 = 4.5 out of 7

I'll even give a free point to the ps3 for being bluray (even though I personally think that bluray is a strike against the ps3 because I think that hd-dvd is cheaper, easier, and more effiecient to produce and all the left over advantages of bluray like their about to start crumbling due to the advancements being made with hd-dvd)

ps3 = 3.5
xbox = 4.5

By the way, this is going to be a never ending argument until one of them just dies off.. which is probably never going to happen.

Which means that you can dig and support a few arguments as to why ps3 is better than 360 elite (which 9 out of 10 pro ps3 arguments are because of the bluray) while I can dig up and support a few arguments as to why 360 is better than ps3.

In the end they both have their advantages and disadvantages and it comes down to the preference of that specific consumer. I personally want a game console with a great selection of games that's fun to play (rumble feedback is awesome). You may want a console that looks awesome on the shelf and is awesome for watching movies and, in the future, will have some kickass games (six-axis controllers are cool as hell).

I may think that old-navy is more comfortable while you would rather sport some gap.
I may like my fries with ketchup, you may like them with ranch.
I may be fine with listening to mp3's on an mp3 player, you may die without your iPod.

It's all opinion... You chose the Ps3 for good reasons and I got rid of my ps3's for good reasons. There are obviously going to be downfalls of both systems simply because there's no such thing as a perfect console. If the 2 got together it would be awesome.

i wonder if the perfect mix out of the 3 next gen system would be, the wii's controller, the ps3's hardware, and the xbox's titles?

^hell.. You could even just combine the 360 and ps3 and just refine the sixaxis controller and have an awesome system.

IMO the ps3 would slaughter every console out there without trying if it simply were hd dvd instead of blu ray. It would have a massive game selection and would be cheaper.. And sony still could have a better video output because.. well.. it's sony.

Sooner or later Apple will come out with a console, they have to. When that happens I bet you'll see a new king emerge. I personally don't like just about anything made by apple because I think that their products are way over rated (iPhone to name one) and way over priced (iPod to name one)... But there's no denying that if they released a system it would be the complete and total sh!t, lol.

The PS3 that cost $499 comes with a 80bg HDD not a 60..

I agree with you, is all about opinions and what do you do with that system, to me PS3 over 360, i will even take a wii over the 360, i will love to play the new SSBB on the wii online, i use to play the one on gamecube like crazy..

If microsoft had free online play, Free HD dvd player out of the box and made with better hardware then i will agree with you, but since it does not, i will have to say PS3 for me.

Remember what happen to the Playstation 2 launch? it was crap and over price, and where is the system now.... :)

80% (guesstimate) of the people with xbox 360 have the premium package so its stupid to compare the elite with the ps3 60 gb. Either way they both have their advantages and disadvantages. If you really cared that much about blu-ray and hd-dvd you should spend the money on a combo player that is being released this month by Samsung and LG (LG already released one but doesn't play all the HD-DVD features but the new one will).

360...why? Because of Live. PS3 does have the online game play now, but it is no where near that of live (IMO) and considering I would rather play against other people then against a computer in story mode the xbox wins hands down.

There's no need. Starting early next year there are supposed to be discs that are compatible with both players going up for sale. I wish I could remember which company it was that announced that they were going to be the first to start producing these discs, because then I could link you to the story.

Also you're right, I do not own an elite. But I think it's rather stupid to compare the "premium" ps3 to the base 360.. Obviously the ps3 will be better, that's why the elite was made in the first place. Like I said, It's like comparing an Si to a base lancer, you wouldn't do that. Pick something that's at least a little bit in its league, like a gti.

Also, you have to take into consideration that you can very easily download (without xbox live) the "patches" so you can play your old xbox games on your 360.

As far as ps1 games go, the only ps1 game I care to play is the first tony hawk and maybe the original twisted metal.

Warner bros. was actually going to be the company that came out with the hd/blu ray hybrid discs. They are now not going to be bringing them out, they are on indefinite hold.

i think your wrong on that one. Sony places highly with wanting backwards compatibility and they arent gonna drop it.
But i do know what your referring to. Sony is taking the Backwards Compatibility hardware and making a software based solution for it which is good and bad.

I hate to say you're wrong, but apparently it's true. The new 40GB (ONLY THE 40GB) PS3 will NOT have backwards compatibility for PS2/PS games. I believe the new 40GB PS3 will also have less USB ports and will not have the card reader.

On another note, I picked up my 80GB PS3 yesterday!
