I'm surprised no one mentioned River City Ransom or Double Dragon it's more famous brother.

I also noticed someone mentioned FF7 but no mention of Chrono Trigger, it's only like the best game Squaresoft ever made.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors, one of my favorite under appreciated titles.

Disgaea a great strategy/turn-based/tactics rpg, similar to Final Fantasy Tactics but alot more funny.

Also no mention of the life ender aka. World of Warcraft. You start playing this game, enjoy not having a social life and gaining at least 15 lbs over a span of 6 months.

I honestly considered SMB3...don't know why I ended up leaving it off tho . I remember seeing that game for the fist time on "The Wizzard" (cheezy movie with Fred Savage and some punk who thoght his Power Glove made him cool..LOL) I instantly had to have that game when I saw it.

Final Fantasy 7 I definitely missed. That one needs to be added. Star Fox 64 is a definite addition also! Mortal Kombat was dope, Mario Kart for the SNES was like crack. Damn...can't believe I forgot about Resident Evil. Both the Madden and 2K Football franchises belong on the list for sure. Jordan vs. Bird was fun, but GOAT? Maybe. I'll add it. And damnit, Techmo Super Bowl is CLASSIC!

I don't feel like Gears of War is one of the greatest. 1. it's too new, 2. (puts on flame-suit) I didn't really think it was all that great. Excellent graphics, nice gameplay features, solid controls, cool innovation with the reload feature, but it just got boring to me within a couple weeks. Then again, I'm not too keen on shooters. Same with Halo, I like it, just not as a GOAT game. If people really disagree with Gears being left off the list, I'll add it in.

EDIT: Definitely forgot about River City Ransom! That game was f'in GREAT!! Double Dragon was fun too, and Bad Dudes, but I think RCR was better than both of them. I'll RCR and DD to the list.

Speaking of River City, how about Super Dodge Ball? Should that be one of the greatest of all time?

Technos the same company that made the Double Dragon games and River City Ransom. Came out with numerous games using the RCR 2D Style aka. Kunio style, a few of them came out in the US. World Cup Soccer, Super Dodge Ball, Crash 'N' The Boys: Street Challenge, River City Ransom. In Japan there over 28 games based on art style, games based on every sport you could imagine, basketball, hockey, etc. even a River City Ransom sequel that allowed you to have a computer controlled AI companion or a 2nd player if you have friends.

Another great game I always forget about is Lethal Enforcers, nothing is more satisfying then shooting some guy doing cartwheels 6 feet in the air in the middle of Chinatown.

Twisted Metal was pretty fun.

Oh yeah you can't forget Carmageddon on the PC, best racing game I've ever played.

Interstate '76 also a great game.

Dungeon Keeper, man I wish they'd remake this. The closest thing we have is Evil Genius which isn't quite the same.

I'd like like to add another game to the list---Secret of Mana on the Snes!! it was just as great as Chrono Trigger thats another squaresoft nod for ya. Also what about the Genesis, that doesn't get no love? Sonic or Shining Force 2? The dreamcast was short lived but also had some great titles.

Arrgh a couple more games popped into my head. Shinobi 2 and 3 for Genesis, Strider for Genesis, Ohh snap what about the Sega CD games....Sewer Shark, Night Trap!! Ohh and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on the PS1. I could go on but i'll let others post
