PS3's launch in Europe...

Saw a link to this on YTMND. Ouch...

I wonder if it is as bad as this seems.

I don't think it's that bad unless Sony flat out skewed the numbers somehow. The total for their European launch was like 600,000 units. The site was a funny read though. Probably composed by som M$ fanboys.

I know the PS3 has had a ton of bad publicity for it, but I think things are looking up. I bought 14 units at launch and sold all of them (including the one I had set aside for myself) for a nice tidy profit (yes I was one of those shameless people selling on ebay, but then again my auctions started at .99 cents).

I plan on repurchasing another PS3 for myself as I did enjoy Resistance, but probably wont buy it until either Lair, Ratchet and Clank, plus some other titles come out.

+1. Everyone that waited in line with me were selling them on ebay. I called it before they were released that they would flop.. it's only hope is that the sony fanbois buy them all and support a machine that is a good one, just not worth the price. I love my xbox 360, but I won't be buying the "black" when it comes out for the same reason. So far I think that nintendo hit the nail on the head and MS and Sony need to really take a step back and think about their priorities again. The wii has waaaaay worse graphics than both systems, and yet has outsold the ps3 & xbox 360 combined. They made a seriously fun to play game system that was based off an idea that had been out there for over 10 years. (power glove, anyone?)

I would put money on the fact that hd-dvd will win out the battle over blu-ray too. Blu-ray is just too expensive and it's not a name or concept that joe-nobody is familiar with. When it comes time to upgrade he's going to see that and a better version of a name that he's known for a while now and which one do you think he'll go with? It's that demographic that usually decides what technology wins over what.. because no matter how many techies know that blu ray is better there will always be more joe-nobodies in the world. Just my .02.

This says it all

I think the Wii is doing extremely well based solely on it's price point. I can't say it's an engrossing machine, because a lot of games are pretty weak. I do like the Nintendo exclusives and I'm eagerly awaiting Smash Bros.

The concept is pretty neat, but besides Zelda the other games have gotten boring after a couple of days. MS and Sony are still ahead IMO due to innovation and taking that "step forward". I think the PS3 will catch up in due time as better games come out.

As for the HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray battle I'll still have to side with Blu-Ray. Up until now they have already outsold HD-DVD on a 3-1 margin after only being out a few months.

The Wii seems to be outselling the PS3 and closing on the Xbox360, even though the Wii and the PS3 have just about the same amount of time on the market.

Linky and the DS seems to be doing well over the PSP.

As for Blu-Ray versus HD-DVD (since a major portion of any Blu-Ray 1st gen players are those with PS3's):

Quote:
HIGH-DEF MARKET SHARE - BRD VS HD-DVD SALES COMPARISON (4/8/07 - Nielsen/VideoScan):
Week Ending 4/8....Blu-ray Disc: 62.4....HD-DVD: 37.6
Year to Date.........Blu-ray Disc: 69.4....HD-DVD: 30.6
Since Inception.....Blu-ray Disc: 56.4....HD-DVD: 43.6
--from The Digital Bits

Maybe 2:1, but taking those figures with a grain of salt since sales from Wal-Mart, some online merchants and others, aren't included in the overall totals.

And then again, while many pages like VGcharts will post *sales* figures, Sony tends to post *shipped* figures, as seen in the differences between what sits on retailers shelves (shipped) and what sits at a customer's house (sales/sold).
