ps3 hdmi help!

So yea my bro opened up the ps3 that i have no money to pay for...my father felt sorry for me, handed me 500 bucks and said merry christmas. so im like cool. haha. he wants to play too anyway.

WELL....
Ok we have this tv, a jvc whatever. lol. i bought a new hdmi cable which cost like $80! so im sure its not some cheap knock off! basically my problem is i cant get it to work.
i plug in hdmi to ps3 and to tv obviously. put the tv to the hdmi channel/video thing. NOTHING. blank screen. no sound no nothing. When i hook up the component cables (the yellow red white plugs right?) and change to different video channel thing... it shows the ps3 and it says something like this on the screen..ps3 detected a hdmi cable do you want to blah blah blah, yes or no.?
i click yes...
go back to the hdmi channel thing...still nothing.
i hope someone or anyone understand what i just said..
so yea please help! thanks.

I'm not too sure about this, but I heard from a friend that works at EB Games that you gotta download some sort of patch onto the Playstation 3 to use the HDMI Capabilities on the PS3.

I would call sony. They will have to help you. On a side note why did you pay $80 for it? I bought a JVC HDMI cable at walmart for $31. I thought it was very cheap of sony not to include any HD cables for the system

what is really cheap is that they did not even include componet cables.

I had the same problem. What you need to do is plug back in the Composite (yellow/white/red) cables and turn the PS3 back on so you can see what you're doing. Go over to the left to the set-up section and you'll find a thing for video settings and output. There's a list to choose from HDMI, component and composite I think. Go and choose HDMI then pick check off the resolutions your TV can handle. Like I said I had the same problem when I first changed over to HDMI and I was like WTF but unless you start it up the first time with HDMI, you have to physically change it over to HDMI output from the system menu.

Here we go:
1. Cheap (but really good) cables: www.monoprice.com
2. Did you go to the Settings option at the XMB and select output video + audio to hdmi? Go to this link for more details: http://www.us.playstation.com/conten...onnect_tv.html

Then after that you need to go the PS Store and download the trailer for Lair and watch it in 1080p if you can. It's freakin' nuts.

yes there are...

...and no it's not. (no offense OP). HUGE issues with their bulbs, build quality and overall cheap picture quality. I realllllly hope you got the extended warranty.

A buddy of mine had the same issue with his PS3 to his projector. He called Sony and they had to walk him through the service menu to make it work. It was bunk! But it's working now.

Plus, Red/white/yellow RCA's are composite video/audio. Component is the red/blue/green (PR/PB/Y) plugs for video only. Sony didn't include them for the same reason no one includes cables with dvd players. 1. if they're free, you know they're cheap. 2. it costs money to throw in cables that the majority of the owners won't be able to use.

Go to Settings> Display Settings> Video Output Settings and push X. You'll then see HDMI/Component or D-Terminal/Composite or S Video/AV MULTI or SCART. Highlight HDMI and push RIGHT on the D-Pad. It will then bring up selections to determine the maximum resolution for TV. Make sure the HDMI is plugged in to both the PS3 and TV before proceeding and select automatic and it will start at 1080p and work it's way down until your TV accepts the signal.

That's weird. Are you switching over to the HDMI input on the TV after you select it or leaving it under the composite video input? That'd be the last thing I'd suggest as far as getting it to work. After that I'd give Sony a call or if you were really set on your earlier decision, bring it back.

^^^what he said. did you switch it to the HDMI input? If not then that's the problem.

btw, i wouldn't complain about an $80 HDMI cable; mine cost $180.
