Yes, PS2's had problems too, but at least they are working out the kinks in the PS3 before they rush to release it before the Wii.

If Microsoft had done the same, there probably wouldn't be so many problems.

you really think the PS3 is being delayed b/c sony is working out the bugs????

PS3 is delayed b/c sony isnt done developing it yet, sony, of all companies, would want their console out now if they could, even if it had a few bugs

PS2s break all the time, my DVD tray broke on mine. part of the reason they sell so well still is b/c a lot of people end up replacing their old ones

and for the record, i bought the best buy 2 yr replacement warranty, $50 for peace of mind was worth it to me

And i never need a disk to operate it and it can also do everything my 360 can and more, well besides play the 360 games. oh and my 360 has only froze twice and both times where when i was cheating on oblivion. so it was my fault.

Buy it at costco, if it ever messes up, EVER, you just take it back for a new one.

Update, after the first day i bought it, the damn thing froze on me so the next day i went back and got the warranty...am i glad i did b/c since then it froze on me at least 25-30 times while playing nfsmw so now i feel like the $50 i spent was well worth it to get a new one in 2 years...i originally bought Ghost Recon w/ the 360 but ended up exchanging it for need for speed most wanted...i knew the girl at the customer service dept. at the best buy so she exchanged it for me even though they aren't allowed to do that:) they only allow the same exact game so i'm glad i got nfsmw, it's great...

I'm a member at Costco. I'm 99% sure if you have the receipt, you can return at any time if something breaks. no questions asked.

I ended up not buying the warranty b/c I figured they just get that extra money from people....so my question is how long have you guys had your consoles and has it ever given anyone problems? stopped working? etc...all responses would be appreciated...thanks in advance...
I've had ONE! It works GREAT!

At Costco im pretty sure there's a 1 year limit, so if it breaks before 1 year you know what to do, and always keep the paper work :)

There is only a limitation on computers (6 months). If you ask, they will tell you 1 year, but my father in law is a manager at a Costco in New Jersey, & basically as long as you didnt run over it with a truck, you can bring anything back, anytime. You dont even have to have your receipt, they can track your purchases by your member #. But it makes it alot easier for them.( & in turn, easier on you.)
Keep in mind that the 360 is more of a hybrid than a console. As far as longevity, it leans towards its pc roots. It suffers from 2 major failures (when it messes up), either software, or overheating (#1 360 killer). You have to keep a lot of airflow around it. If you stick it in an entertaiment center where it barely fits, it will overheat, plain & simple. That little Nyko fan add-on actually works well. As for the software, it may just need you to clear it's cache. here

I worked at EB for a year & i cant stand the way they do business, treat customers, & now that they are gamestop, its even worse. So im a little partial to buying it anywhere else. The downside to getting the warranty is unless the failure is within the original return period, then you just ate it on 50 bucks because you happened to get the glitchy one. When they hand you that new 360, you have to buy another warranty to cover that one. You think they take a hit on that console? No it goes back to Microsoft & they get credited for it. Bam, they just pocketed your $50.
Microsofts cust service is decent, depending on who you get you may have to fight a bit to get authorized to return, & the turnaround time is iffy, but its free.
I sent my psp to sony because it was collecting lint on the screen under the front housing & three weeks later i had a brand new one. The reason everyone notices the failures of Sony so much more is because there are so many more PS2's than Xbox's in households. Simple statistics, the larger the pool, the larger the failure rate. (That being said ive been through two of the big ones & 1 of the small ones, but that was laser failure i used em all as my primary dvd player).
So be careful going with the individual experiences, look at the larger picture. The failure rate of the 360 is lower than the ps2, but higher than the original xbox. I expext the PS3 will have the highest failure rate yet, but it will also have a higher initial production volume, newer technology, and bigger expectations.

Very well put. Good info overall. Plus I guess I should look into the Nyko fan for my 360.

Woo! got dead rising, should be hot! and going to get Street Fighter 2, 360 was a good purchase in my opinion...more and more of the "exclusive" games that PS3 planned on are starting to jump on the 360, Project Offset, GTA 4, etc, etc

I bought the $50 warrenty from best buy. I 've had the 360 since January and not had a problem yet. My opinion would be to buy it just in case.
