question about twm base bushings

order full short throw kit for 2007 civic si and had cable bushings installed and short throw adapter and aluminum base bushings. went to a local shop and had them do complete install and was very happy with everything but found out when they installed the aluminum base bushing they left the factory rubber bushings in place and just placed the aluminum bushings underneath the bottom of the factory rubber ones. was told by the installer that the aluminum bushings were to small and did not fit in the hole that they were lose and not secure without the rubber bushings in place and was told that they left the stock rubber bushings in place to secure the aluminum base bushings. so contacting twm and was told that was wrong that the stock rubber bushings needed to be completely removed and just be replaced with the twm base bushings so went back to shop and the installer highly recommend not to do it that way but changed it out anyway cause thats what i wanted. so just wanted to make sure that is the correct way to do it is to completely remove stock rubber bushings and just replace with aluminum base bushings. but the weird thing is that i noticed that when the stock rubber bushings and twm base bushings were inplace together i noticed that the shifts felt more crisp and stiffer there was no play or movement but after swap with just the aluminum base bushings the shifts no longer felt as stiff or crisp and there is more play and movement so should i just put the stock rubber bushings back with the aluminum ones or leave it how it is any advice and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Instructions were specifically not to use the rubber bushings. I took mine off and never looked back.

how much of a difference was there after you removed the rubber bushings?

yeah, i put in the short shifter one week, and then the base bushings about a week later (completely removing the stock rubber ones). it seemed like the shifting was better before i put the base bushings in. the throw seemed longer. not as long as stock - but not as short as before the bushings were installed...

anybody else have this problem?

You've likely gotten used to the throw, so now it feels long again.

Honestly though, our car's shifter feels really nice stock...

The STI's is ridiculously hard to use and it doesn't feel smooth at all.

you could have just installed it yourself, something as easy as base bushings/cable bushings and the short shfiter in it self is very easy to install, maybe an hour at most if your completely new to the whole DIY. The instructions are also very clear. Unless the shop did it for you for free, but I would never let anyone touch my car.

Oh and take out the rubber bushings.

Trust me, I've been there too. At first, I thought it was super snickety and short. Then I drove my friend's stock S2000...and I got all sad driving my car. Heh.
