major problem...what did i do???

had my TWM SS and cable bushings installed for a month or so...love it! well i took the SI up through some twisties saturday. keep it in 3rd gear most of the time and between 4-6k rpm. on the way home i went to hit 3rd gear at 8k and miss shifted and the shift felt very weird. so i tried it again and bam another missed shift. weird...havent missed a shift in the 6k miles of ownership.

figured it was just me. woke up the next morning and couldnt find reverse it just wasnt there...it was like empty space and it had just gone away. so i drove around and noticed just about every gear was screwed up. took the shift knob up and re tightened the SS and everything and was good to go. well the same thing happened today i cant shift fast into any gear and reverse is gone. this is what it looks like...could this sleeve be the cause of the problem? please help...i have never power shifted this car and at a complete loss. this is my 5th manual car for the record

Help! Can't get into reverse!

Busted cable? Its threads like these that make me not get short shifter and stiffer bushings.

I'd say put the stock parts back in (i know it sucks lol) then take it to the dealer and NEVER let them know you had em.

Yea, its weird that two of these types of threads have popped up in the past week or so!

Keep us posted on your progress man. Someone in the related thread said they were taking their ride into the dealership on Wednesday, hopefully they post back. I think all of us who have the cable bushings would love to know how the problem is resolved in case it happens to us ... well, at least i know i am.

Sounds like the rubber cover over the shift cable came off (where you put the bushings in at the trans) Mine did this and I took a zip tie and put in on the end to keep it in one place. The inner part i ssliding off and binding not allowing for full motion.

well good news guys...dealer is covering it under warranty. i took it to the dealer with the TWM cable bushings installed (i threw the stock ones out, doh)

the cable is in fact bent/stretched and some plastic piece is busted. dont know what part exactly there talking about. the cable and piece is on national backorder so my dealer is under the impression that this might be a more common problem then we think. the sun visors are also on back order.

ill report back once i get the car back. hes checking with the sales manager to pull the parts off a brand new SI on the lot so i dont have to wait 1-2 weeks, i didnt complain =)

Good to hear that they are covering it man ... maybe the install was a catalyst to this problem. If you wouldn't have done the install, maybe you would have gotten another year or so with the cables before a failure occurred.

As I said in the other post. The rubber boot came off the cable. When this happens the cable will kink. Mine did this and I slid the boot back on and put a zip tie on it. When it would do this I couldn't get into reverse and first (can't remeber the forward gear, but I'm sure of reverse) Haven't had a problem since.

I'm not so sure it's the product. I have had the SS and base bushings in for over 6 months now and no problems what so ever. Shifts are louder due to the bushings, but they are more precise. If anything, the short shifter is not short enough.

Looking at purchasing an SS soon... Is this still happening? Just wondering if it's the product (Any SS Brand) or is it a defect (Since we have linkage issues already) = P
