MAPerformance Sidewinder manifold for FA/FG

Just a few thoughts. I'm still awaiting MAPerformance to write me back regarding this specific sidewinder manifold, but what's yall's input to this? Do you think it'll work with our newer chassis? I currently drive a 08 SI and am REALLY interested in it. Take note that unlike other manifolds it doesn't have the hump on the top to hit the metal/plastic beneath our windshields. I know a few people have installed the sidewinders on their cars so hopefully one of them will pipe into this thread.

Here's a link to the manifold

MAP Sidewinder Turbo Manifold (Honda K20 Swap Civic 92-00 / Integra 94-01) - Modern Automotive Performance

and a couple links to Private Label to their manifold that has the "hump"

https://www.privatelabelmfg.com/Phot...PhotoNumber=10

https://www.privatelabelmfg.com/Phot...&PhotoNumber=4

if you look at both pictures. notice how the private label has all the runners going almost parallel to each other vs. the MAP one the #3 & 4 runners go out and over the #1 & 2.

are you referring to the sidewinder on the 8th gen or the specific manifold mentioned above?

You can just get a fabricator to make you one. Best choice I made! My sidewinder setup has been going strong for over a year andf 15k kms without an issue

that would be nice as i don't have days on end to leave my car somewhere so they can mess around with it and try to figure out what to do. this is my daily. when i get to doing my swap/turbo install im gonna have to take a few days of vacation to knock it all out. so im gonna have to try and get everything in one shot.

hmmm

oh...can you find out if your fabricator made a jig and can you post a pic of your setup (manifold how it sits) if don't mind?

I spoke to MAP, they said they'd likely make one for this chassis if I brought my car in, they just needed to double check measurements

That would be great if they did. In the meantime I'm not sure if i want to buy the current manifold from them (still debating this) for it to not work out cause its too wide. Cant really do a whole lot to mod a firewall. Im not taking a hammer to anything lol. Just a cutting wheel and welder if I absolutely have to for modding the cowl. I asked them for measurements of how wide it is from the flange that bolts to the head to the runner sticking out the most rear portion. Hopefully they get back to me.

this side mount style manifold will not spool faster, but it does show the turbo off more and may have a tendency to boost creep. the shorter runners can lose a little top end on a T3 undivided setup like most everyone on this forum runs, so the sidemounts typically work best in a twinscroll config (not possibel to fit without cutting the firewall)

I've got pics of it in my build thread a few pages back. I have another car for the winter so I just had my car dropped off their for a month for him to make all the adjustments needed. My manifold is an equal length design with ZERO creep all the way to redline. If I turn the boost controller off and just run off the w/g it holds 3psi the entire way to 8600. All depends on the design.

With the PLM manifold

I don't have boost creep and I didn't have to cut my firewall. Although I did modify my cowl for the little hump on top of it.

As for spool times I have a large journal bearing turbo (the same specs as a GT3582 turbo) and I hit my boost setting of 20psi before 5krpm with 2.5 inch IC piping and a large 3.5 inch intercooler.

I can't compare this to tubular manifolds im only sharing my experience with the PLM sidewinder manifold.

Maybe someone running a similar size turbo on a tubular manifold can share their experience.

Maybe someone can start a sidewinder vs tubular war sidewinders are out numbered but are they out powered ? Hehe

so...still no love from MAP about the measurements i asked them to take. So I'm REALLY debating to go your route Fred since i have access to plenty of metal and a welder to just modify my cowl. you sir have inspired my k24 sidewinder.

Do it! just make sure you get the k-tuned upper coolant housing.

And the only reason I welded the cowl was because i grinded so much away there was a hole so to keep the rain from getting in there I welded a hump in it.

Other than that you're good can't wait to see it

Haha you cant wait to see it, i cant wait to start it. Slowly piecing stuff together to get this beast going.

Ive been looking at the k tuned upper coolant housing. Havent really looked too much in the car as to what it entails for install. I know obviously the line connects from the radiator to it, but are the heater hoses ran differently? Im sure when i get it, itll be self-explanatory. A lot of people that ive seen that have it have egs, dcs, eks, etc so its not a big deal to delete their heat. As for me have a 6 yr old and a twins on the way. heat is a must!!!

Well im embarrassed to admit I forgot about the heater hose. It has to be routed around the turbo then back to the block and upper coolant housing.
