I'm deciding on putting a RSX base trans in my SI since I can get them for $500 at my junkyard. I know that I would have to modify the shift selector to run it but if i switch out the bellhousing with a Z3 case I can run the pickup sensor and the shift selector with no problem. I blew my transmission 3 times in 1 year. This last time I blew up 4th gear, I put the trans together and its now making noises. So i'm just done with trans and buying a 5spd to just put in there and just spending time on finding out the issue on my 6spd. My question to you guys is what do you think about the 5spd RSX trans in the SI's (gear ratio-wise)? The EP3 trans has different 1st, 2nd gear, and final drive. I can't find any EP3 trans.

P.s. The noise that my 6SPD trans is making is whenever I engage a gear it makes a thumping or a chopper noise. Neutral is fine. 5th and 6th are the worse with the noise. I installed trans and everything should be correct. The 72mm shim is clipped on to the countershaft correctly. has anybody else had this problem?

... Or you could do what I ended up doing... Demolishing my bank account for Albins parts.

After 2 broken countershafts, a broken ring gear, and a broken 2nd gear, this seemed like the best way to ensure I stopped breaking those parts.

Me an you both are in the same spot. I've been told the Rsx transmissions are the best out of the 5speeds an yes they are much stronger people wouldnt go 5speed if they weren't.. I picked up my Rsx tranny.for 250 it has way longer gears than the 6speed. What I was trying to do is take the LSD from my previous broken tranny an.add it on the 5speed, maybe add the 6th back on. I actually have a good si transmission right now for sale because im sure it'll break so ill rather sell when its good an make me a good 5speed.. Instead of ending up breaking 4th again

I think if we really took a hard look at the # of civic Si owners who modify there cars to the number of cars sold. That would be part of it. People are not willing to pay extra money for something they may not use. If you think about it, your car OTD cost for a civic would probably go up another 2-5K.

And then there is everything else. Noise form the tranny, drivability, and so on.
