Man, Why are you guys bashing what He did to the shifter? He just wanted to show everyone what he did. Maybe the mod to bring the shifter closer to him makes the cockpit feel more...iono.. cockpitty. I know when I go ganster and put on the sizzle lean in the chair, It's difficult to reach the shifter :) I see this as a needed mod for some people. Kinda like my F-150. I could adjust the pedals with a switch. In this case, since the pedals arent on a linear actuator, and since he is the only one driving the si (to hell with the people who borrow or want to drive his car) I say if the new shifter placement makes it more comfortable for him than so be it. I honestly wouldn't mind if the shifter was higher and a bit further back. So remember guys before you jump on the band wagon and bash, critically think about why its done.

I for one like the placement, and to the people bashing on his mod, you guys couldn't even figure out how to remove the shifter bezel let alone make a functional mod without pictures, instructions and someone holding your hand which holds the screwdriver. Reverse bash

I personally like this, for me to have the Shifter back a few inches would make a huge differnce for me. I am 6 foot 1 and have to have the seat back almost all the way when I drive, which makes me reach for the shifter. No im not gangster leanin it lol, im 33 I have good posture LOL. Anyhow, I love the fact that I can push forward the middle arm rest and lay my elbow on it when I shift, but i can only do this with the seat forward more than I like. I think im next in line for this. I am also going to try and find a way to shorten that damn E-brake, honestly I think it is only that long becasue they think we need that much leverage to pull it, so it can be much shorter afterall im not that weak, but if it was half the size it would be great and my knee would stop hurting from laying on it. Just have to figure out how to shorten the line, so you can still use the push button release.
On a side note, lets not bash the kid. How many times do you think these HUGE companies go through trial and error. You just do not see that part of it in pics. You just see the finished product, and he has to start somewhere. You never know this may be the next millionare that just stumbles onto something. I give him big props for being inventive and looking for new and different ways to improve our cars. Good luck and post future mods, no matter how out of the world they are!! |

I have however been driving it, and I'll be the first one to admit that something I came up with sucks. I made a goofy part a while back, and it sucked, and I let everyone know that it didn't work out. The shifter being an inch further up feels great, like it was meant to be there in the first place. Since the shift knob movement is higher, shifting is more of a push pull, rather than trying to move the knob along the the floor. It's hard to explain, but I'm 5'9" and it works out great. I'm on my way to the garage to put the console in and take some pictures; it's time to finish this one up. |

I have a question.
Isnt the point of the short shifter to make the distance you have to more the shifter shorter? Doesnt raising the shifter make the distance you have to move the shifter longer? So....... Short shift kit + Raised shifter = Counteractive??? I may be wrong about this..... But.... I doubt it. |
