I started to feel a little "notch" going into 3rd gear and since I was already changing my oil I decided to change my gear oil too (2800 miles). The notch was nothing bad I've felt this in most MT cars I've driven or owned, just felt like a little "tap" of the gears when going into 3rd shifting slowly. I changed my fluid to pennzoil synchromesh and the tap has pretty mutch gone away and now the shifter just glides into every gear.

This is also easier to do than changing the stupid oil filter on teh Si for the first time.

Yup, I rather change transmission fluid 10 times than the damn Si Oil Filter. Trust me it doesn't get any easier the second time around

Thanks. the picture of the drain and filler plugs helped me out a lot. I'd never filled or drained a manual transmission, ever.

It was a lot easier than I expected, but I managed to pull and Erik and F@#& everything up- I managed to drop the FILLER plug onto the black metal... frame piece right below and a little behind the transmission.
After ten minutes, I was able to retrieve it by going at it from different angles. If I had a right thumb, I wouldn't have been able to retrieve it, but I don't, so my hand was able to fit into the wickedly small space and finally get it out.

Initially, my ratchet wasn't long enough to supply the torque I needed, so I supplicated it with THIS:

amazing how handy a random piece of PVC piping can be.

I used a coastal liquid pump to get the amsoil into the transmission. I purchased it at autozone for 4 dollars.

if it didn't work, I was going to give my air pump a shot. thankfully it didn't come to that...

^^ should have read *pull AN Erik, not "and Erik"

...by the way, I was amazed by the amount of MTF that literally gushed out of the FILL hole. I got that one off first (just to make sure I could, per a good piece of advice
I think my transmission probably has about 1.7 or 1.8 quarts of fluid in it, now.

Changing the fluid is one of the best mods I did (AmsOil MTF).

Talking

Amsoil is amazing! I just changed my fluid on my '07 FG2. It took a little over an hour by myself. The 'big ass syringe' was a big help. The tranny took about 1 3/4 quarts. I just took it on a quick 10 mile round trip test drive and wow! 1st, 2nd, and 4th are smooth as butter. 5th and 6th are not quite as smooth, but I can't really complain. 3rd gear is now a whole new world. Before, about 25% of the time (worse when cold) I would have to remember to shift to 3rd then pause a second b4 letting the clutch out until the shifter clicked again into true 3rd gear. I probably grinded 3rd 10 to 20 times since 11/4/06 when I bought the car . Sometimes I was afraid to shift into third because I was like oh please, oh please don't grind. I was getting tired and fed up with the car and considered trading it in. However, now 3rd is prefect . It isn't smooth like butter, it still gives me some feedback, but it doesn't fight me any more. It actually wants to go into 3rd!!! Hallelujah!!! Now I can with no fear. Today is a great day. Anyone who hasn't done this yet, what are you waiting for? Best mod ever, especially for only $24.

Anyone know if you can use the (I think) VSS sensor/vent pipe with the rubber plug on it to fill the trans with oil instead of having to use a BA syringe? I know with the B series motors I used it to fill my tranny... very accepted practice. Is it the same in the K series?
