A Dealership can NOT void a warranty, it must be done by an OEM Rep. They may try to tell you that, but you just need to better armed with the proper information when you deal with it.

NEXT: There is NO WAY, No How, they could void a warranty for doing Maintenance..

It is against the Law for them to try, that's all there is to it.

^ So are you saying have the dealership drain and refill the tranny with another MTF (ie = amsoil) or its safe to do it yourself and still retain your warranty?

either they or you can change the fluid with whatever brand you choose as long as it meets the fluid spec'd by the OEM.

In Honda's case.... their specs are so loose, it is a joke... If MTF cannot be found use a 10W-40 or 10W-30 Motor Oil... One fluid that you cannot use is a GL-5 Gear Lube.. Loose spec's ??? MTF is a GL-4 and a Motor oil is a GL-1.

Of course, the proper fluid such as AMSOIL MTF will make your transmission shift smoother and last longer.

It makes no difference what the Dealer says, The Law trumps that... It is calle The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act

Pretty sure other oils like Royal Purple rate their MTF at 75w-90 while Amsoil rates it at 5w-30, should be the same thing..
Can anyone confirm this?

AMSOIL MTF 5W-30 is the proper Fluid for the Honda Manual Trans. MTG is the 75W-90 for other applications such as EVO's or Dodge NV 4500 transmissions and others calling for a Gear Lube Type Lubricant. MTF and MTG are not compatible and should never be mixed.

F stands for Fluid.... G for Gear Lube with AMSOIL...

The following Link is to a Study of Gear Lubes and was performed by Several Independent Testing Facilities which are ISO Accredited..

http://bestoil4you.com/files/g2457GearLube.pdf

What most people don't realize is that there is No Governing Body for Gear Lubes. I could almost bottle some Maple Syrup, use a little sulpher for sniff factor and sell it for Gear Lube... Of course, a good Maple Syrup is way more expensive than Gear Lube and tastes better on my pancakes.

If I want to flush the tranny how should I go about doing that?
I bought a gallon of Red Line MTL - I was thinking about just draining the OEM MTF, refilling with Red Line MTL, then drive it around a bit (maybe for a few days), then drain again and refill.
Or would it be better to just drain the OEM MTF, refill with new MTL, drain new MTL, and refill with new MTL?
